The government of our nation has been granted a license to slaughter, a charter for treachery.
No matter, one is under any circumstances somehow expected to "Support Our Troops!"
Beyond the war, there has been the torture, an abomination even too gross for those who license slaughter, and so torture was stopped -- or was it really? Why ever would the truth of continuing torture be allowed to be known now, or ever?
Much of the current license for treachery was inseminated by the collapse of the three (many still recall just two) skyscrapers in lower Manhattan on September 11, 2001, as well as the "attack" on the Pentagon, and the airplane crash in Pennsylvania, all of which were caused -- we are still told -- by a bunch of Al-Qaedans of at best limited prowess in the operation, navigation and skilled maneuvering of highly complex passenger jet aircraft, and being formidably armed with box cutters. There was a congressional investigation that resulted in the original story being allowed to stand, despite the huge array of highly qualified actual eye witnesses, technical experts and scientists who have sworn on their professional and personal reputations that such was simply impossible.
Beyond such as the wars and the torture and the violent catastrophes, the license metastasizes into our domestic affairs, a sample of which is the American medical system, or non-system if you will, which at twice the per capita cost extends medical care to Americans that is rated 37th in quality among the family of nations. Here again we have congressional hearings, but the treachery prevails. Any version of a single-payer system such as serves so many other nations in superior fashion is put down with some version of the theme: "That would be socialism!" (i.e. a condition less to be tolerated than certain physical intimacies within the family.)
Now, what is the purpose of this litany, this "license" business, and who would grant such permission for slaughter and other assorted treachery? Firstly, the license is granted by an authority beyond the American government, and even beyond that government's masters (no, the treachery, other than that inspired by madness, is not done just for the fun of it). The license for the slaughter, for the torture, for the sorry medical system America suffers, and a variety of other abuses -- is granted, endorsed, signed, sealed and delivered by you, my friends, and me. If we truly wished things to be otherwise, we would nullify that license tomorrow, no -- today!
How did we get into this situation? Why do we ignore evident truth? Why do we not extricate ourselves to our own advantage? Why do we tolerate congressional investigating committees before our public and television eyes to retreat into "closed session" when the vitals are to be discussed and the truth to be re-costumed? Why do we fly in the face of the industrialized world with and exorbitant but inferior medical system to our own disadvantage? Why do we permit the warlords their treacherous manipulation to "Support Our Troops," knowing that it's an extension of our charter to slaughter more of those very same youngsters as well as the foreign victims?
Perhaps you know the answer. But trust me now: I do not.
At first I thought that perhaps the American electorate was simply lamentably uninformed and in fact just stupid. But then I heard the private criticism and indeed the growing public expression that belied that first impression, and it seemed there was indeed evidence, even in the face of the flag waving and the warmongering slogans, of an informed electorate. Then the public criticism of the official 9-11 explanation became pronounced, perhaps just a shade less than universal. And now we have one public opinion poll after another clearly surfacing the electorate's interest in a government administered medical system. And we have witnessed since the Democrat takeover of Congress, then the subsequent election of a Democrat president, that political partisanship is not inherent to the treachery, with the new government, aside perhaps from cosmetic pretensions, marching down the same path of treachery as did its Republican predecessor.
Ignorance now proves not the excuse, not the reason. Partisan preference is not a causal factor. The truth is now abundant that in the eyes of a knowing electorate of either partisan persuasion, an electorate that would have things otherwise, our license to slaughter and our charter for assorted other criminal abuse maintains.
In the face of all my endeavors to keep informed, to discern fact from fiction, to identify the real issues, to sense the truth as opposed to the propaganda, to seek sources of enlightenment beyond the American bought-and-paid-for media -- I am absolutely confounded by my inability to comprehend why we allow our government to operate at variance to our best interests and to the disgrace of our future history, and why we do not cancel its license for slaughter, its charter for treachery, all of which continue to march on at our pleasure.
I now ask everyone, anyone, why in the face of behavior that civilized people deplore, do we permit these abominable actions by our government to proceed? I, we do not need to be reminded that one heroic individual or another has stood up against these crimes, or that such and such group of activist-hobbyists paraded down the Mall just last Saturday, for the twelfth time in the past six years, nor do we need to be schooled yet again in one finely nuanced special-interest message above all others, or that one group or another has persevered for six years, thereby proving the fecklessness of them all.
