Blogger Lori Shem-Tov has been detained for 21 months for defaming judges. In the meanwhile the judges defame her in their decisions, comparing her to a dangerous whore...
Tel-Aviv, Nov 26 - today, hearing has been held in the Tel-Aviv District Court in detained blogger Lori Shem-Tov's Statement for Recusal for a Cause against District Judge Abraham Heiman. The cause: Heiman joined Supreme Court Justice Noam Solberg, citing in his decisions regarding Lori defamatory biblical verses: "For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword."(Proverbs 5:3).
In her Statement of Recusal, Lori cited the traditional Jewish interpretation - theses verses refer to a foreign murderous whore.
Heiman denied the recusal. In his decision, Heiman cited Supreme Court Presiding Justice Esther Hayut, who ruled on the very same matter - that citing these verses by Supreme Court Justice Noam Solberg presented "no evidence of bias".
The irony of it all is obvious. The criminal indictment against Lori is primarily based on defamatory publications against judges. The purported cause for her extreme and unusual detention is the purported extreme danger of such publications... In the meanwhile, the judges themselves are engaging in the very same conduct, using defamatory language against Lori.
Lori Shem-Tov is a central activist in the protest against corruption of the family courts in Israel and taking children from their parents by the state. In this unprecedented case, Lori has been held for 21 months prior to trial. Even top figures in crime families and serial rapists are routinely released to house arrest in Israel, while on trial.
In view of Lori's extreme and unusual treatment by the justice system, media described Lori Shem-Tov as "State Enemy No. 1". However, media reports on this case are extremely rare. It is a self-imposed censorship by media, who fully understand that the judges like to keep this case off the public radar.
While in prison, Lori is routinely denied access to court records and evidence against her. Therefore, this unusual detention enables the judges to conduct of a trial by a kangaroo court. Lori has remained without defense counsel for a few months now. But even when she had a public defender assigned, she had never had a face-to-face meeting with her counsel in almost 2 years!
Immediately upon her initial detention in February 2017, the prosecution ran a smear campaign in Israeli media, describing Lori Shem-Tov as a part of an "Internet terrorism gang". That lie has been since abandoned...
