Watch and share Capitalism, A Love Story; then take action!
Dear Mr. Campbell:
As constituents living in your Congressional District, we are requesting that you and your staff watch the Michael Moore DVD, Capitalism, A Love Story, if you haven't already. In case you, Mr. Campbell, do not personally receive this letter, we would request that a staff person view the DVD and share it with you and others. We understand that you have already received a copy, so, again, we suggest you view it.
We and thousands of others have watched this film in horror and disgust at what has been allowed to take place behind the walls of many banks, insurance companies and other corporate institutions, as well as what various government agencies, including Congress itself, have allowed. These greed-driven individuals are only concerned with their bottom-line profits. They have trampled mercilessly and our constitutional and sovereign rights both as citizens of the United States of America and as human beings. In addition, they have spread their tentacles worldwide, with no regard for human life or dignity.
We recognize that this language is very harsh. We feel that our voices have not been heard when spoken in a kind and gentle manner. Thus, we are using stronger language, which seems to be the language of those in power at this time. Our voices will be heard loudly and clearly! It is time!
That it is necessary to make such a movie, Capitalism, A Love Story, and promote it by word of mouth, is a symptom of the depths of subjugation to capitalist and corporate power to which our nation has fallen. We, the people of the United States of America, have been blatantly lied to by our elected leaders and their agents. We have been led into at least two foreign military conflicts since September 11, 2001, by lies about the external threats to our national security so-called terrorists posed. We have been lied to about the causes of the domestic and global financial meltdown. The regulations put in place to manage the financial institutions are weak because of deregulation and have failed to stem the bleeding of financial wealth from millions of Americans and others with investments in our financial institutions. We have been denied universal healthcare comparable to other "developed" nations with fear-mongering about "socialized medicine." You, Mr. Campbell, state on your website that polls indicate a weak acceptance of the need for such legislation. We quote from an undated OC Register article posted on your website: "Rep. John Campbell's office says his calls are 70-30 against the majority's bill. Even the calls into the county's sole Democratic representative, Rep. Loretta Sanchez are 50-50 on the bill, although her staff says many of the calls are not from people who live in the 47th District." We think that the poll numbers are not representative of informed thinking of those polled. It is the misinformation and, yes, lies told by opponents of healthcare and financial regulation, that are spread by the mainstream media and news organizations. Rather than informing news consumers of the facts, the newscasters and their employers accept the distortions by opponents of the legislation without fact checking or making a deeper analysis of the sources of the misinformation.
Capitalism, A Love Story is a response to the lies and distortions of many of the corporations, their lobbyists and their political puppets.
