Happy New Year and Thanks from Gov. Don Siegelman

Message Don Siegelman

I want to wish a deeply heartfelt Happy New Year to my friends, my family and my incredible legion of supporters, some of whom I know and many of whom I don't. I am honored by your intentions and efforts on my behalf. If there is a positive side to the enormous legal challenges I've been faced with over the past number of years, it's been the generosity and outpouring of support I've received from so many people all over our country.

I want to prevail upon all of you to keep up the fight for justice for me, because my battle goes far beyond my own personal benefit. This fight, our fight, is for justice to prevail for everyone in our country who has been wronged by those people who have misused and abused our political and justice systems.

To that end, I urge you all to keep your eye on the ball. The media would have you believe that the biggest story worth reporting on Karl Rove is the recent dissolution of his marriage. They have given the issue significant attention over the past few days, and yet they never should have abandoned coverage of his undisputable role in my political prosecution, his part in the outing of Valerie Plame, and other alleged irregularities attributable to George Bush's one-time deputy chief of staff.

Demand that your press, both mainstream and progressive, do justice to our democracy by asking the tough questions, by digging for the truth, by not letting PR campaigns pass for news.

In order for me to be free, in order for us to be free, we must have an involved and informed electorate, a free press that is dedicated to educating the public and exposing the scoundrels, and a justice department that is committed to upholding the Constitution of the United States, even when it makes them feel uncomfortable to do so.

I have faith in the Constitution. I have faith in the American people, and I know that they want to do the right thing. They just need the right information to guide them along their path.

They say that that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Well, I am up for the fight. I hope I can count on you to keep fighting with me.

WISHING YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES PEACE, HEALTH & WELL-BEING IN THE COMING YEAR.
