Happy Holidays, Truthseekers! The Malloy Show will return LIVE Monday January 4, 2010. Just for kicks, we asked our five-year-old daughter Molly some questions about Christmas. Here are the highlights!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Why do we celebrate Christmas?
Because it's such fun! We're celebrating Christmas and the Winter Solstice. The Grinch hated Christmas because of all the noise and happiness and laughter. But then his heart grew bigger because of the singing and he carved the roast beast all by himself.
What is Christmas?
We celebrate Jesus' birthday because he was an important person.
Okay, what is the Winter Solstice then?
It's when you have a Christmas tree and a big feast and the people back then had a ginormous bonfire as big as the whole yard because they were afraid the sun wouldn't come back next year. The fire reminded the sun it had to keep coming up in the sky. And they took the yule log each year to help remember.
Who is Santa Claus?
Santa Claus brings presents to good, helpful, nice children, like me! You'll tell him that, won't you? He was St. Nick a long time ago before they changed his name.
Who was St. Nick?
(whispering) Tell me . . . .
Oh! He was a good and nice person who brought toys and money and fruit and pineapples to poor people so they could have Christmas and food in their stockings instead of coal.
Why do we give presents at Christmas?
To celebrate our good life.
