The American World Service Corps (AWSC) Congressional Proposal that we would like Congress to introduce is a:
Jobs program that incentivizes Americans to work in already existing governmental and non-profit organizations (Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Habitat for Humanity, Head Start, Doctors Without Borders, Red Cross, International Rescue Committee, Oxfam, Mercy Corps, and State Conservation Corps, etc.) that they respect.
Service entry into a classroom of domestic and international needs that gives experiential learning that refutes much of the media washing that causes simplistic, illogical thinking, and a dumbed-down electorate.
Robust "voluntary" service corps of do-gooders that will augment our military in winning the hearts and minds of potential terrorists and the respect of the world.
A platform that replicates and updates the attractive perceptions and works of FDR's Public Works Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps and JFK's Peace Corps while correcting what some perceived as their weaknesses.
Public relations grabber that wins not just the hearts of those it works with but the votes of audiences exposed to the simple, cost effective public policy solutions that the AWSC involves Americans in implementing.
Foundation upon which another Greatest Generation, which was molded around hard work and service, can today be peacefully built.
General Stanley McChrystal recently placed the implementation of economic development ahead of militarily disrupting lives in Marja, as he scrambled to find AID (Agency for International Development) and agricultural experts to help build an economy and a governance system that eliminates terroristic support in Afghanistan, and elsewhere.
Today a plethora of generals are scrambling, because neither America nor the rest of the world has a big enough army of do-gooders serving day in and day out to better lives and win hearts and minds.
