Attorney General William Barr has demonstrated beyond doubt that he is a lickspittle fraud, and nominal traitor. Traitor, you say?! Yes, Barr was obviously recruited by the Republican establishment to squelch the Mueller Report. Why else would he submit an unsolicited 19-page withering critique of the Mueller investigation to the Justice Department? His recent "spying" ruse was embarrassing malfeasance, and illustrates the lengths he'll go to thwart any real attempt to hold Trump and his cabal of crooks and liars accountable.
Trump's tax returns and the unredacted Mueller Report would both undoubtedly reveal Trump as an unprincipled grifter, and more importantly, either a witting or unwitting asset of the Russian government. This kind of revelation would of course mean nothing to Trump cultists, but it may convince others to vote him out of office in 2020.
Let's assume the most benign interpretation of Trump's behavior that he is an "unwitting" asset of the Russian government - an easily manipulated narcissist that can be manipulated by simple flattery, and by leveraging his inherent venality, arrogance and avarice.
Trump lied about his Moscow Tower project. Why? Because it would have put a lie to his campaign assertion that he had no Russian connections - which leads to the conclusion that Trump put personal business dealings above any other consideration, and that he probably never expected to win the 2016 presidential election. This all gives new significance to former Republican House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy's 2016 admission that "There's two people, I think, Putin pays: [California Representative Dana] Rohrabacher and Trump ... [laughter] ... swear to God." (WaPo)
With that in mind, it's fairly obvious that Republican hierarchy clearly suspected that Trump was compromised.
Knowing what they did about Trump, Republican establishment sounded the alarm when Trump panicked and fired FBI director Jim Comey and subsequently initiated the Special Council investigation into the Trump Russia connection. Next, Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from overseeing the Special Council because he had perjured himself - vis-Ã -vis his contact with Russian officials - during congressional testimony on two occasions.
When Democrats gained control of the House after the 2018 election, Trump, no doubt, was advised by his counsel to fire Sessions and appoint Republican establishment ringer William Barr. Barr, of course, is an experienced hand at obstructing justice with his previous sabotaging of the Iran-Contra investigation, which subsequently saved Bush I's, and probably Ronald Reagan's, bacon.
To fully grasp Barr's treachery, one has to remember that he is enabling the most serious threat to our nation since World War II. Barr will be complicit in whatever disaster occurs as a result of rendering a dangerous corrupt and incompetent sociopath unaccountable. That's discounting Trump's multiple public episodes of brain malfunction and what the exact neurological cause may be ("agent origin" should seek immediate examination by an actual medical professional not some hand-picked inebriated quack).
