General Barr and His Multicolored Coat of Obfuscation

Attorney General William Barr has demonstrated beyond doubt that he is a lickspittle fraud, and nominal traitor. Traitor, you say?! Yes, Barr was obviously recruited by the Republican establishment to squelch the Mueller Report. Why else would he submit an unsolicited 19-page withering critique of the Mueller investigation to the Justice Department? His recent "spying" ruse was embarrassing malfeasance, and illustrates the lengths he'll go to thwart any real attempt to hold Trump and his cabal of crooks and liars accountable.

Trump's tax returns and the unredacted Mueller Report would both undoubtedly reveal Trump as an unprincipled grifter, and more importantly, either a witting or unwitting asset of the Russian government. This kind of revelation would of course mean nothing to Trump cultists, but it may convince others to vote him out of office in 2020.

Let's assume the most benign interpretation of Trump's behavior that he is an "unwitting" asset of the Russian government - an easily manipulated narcissist that can be manipulated by simple flattery, and by leveraging his inherent venality, arrogance and avarice.

Trump lied about his Moscow Tower project. Why? Because it would have put a lie to his campaign assertion that he had no Russian connections - which leads to the conclusion that Trump put personal business dealings above any other consideration, and that he probably never expected to win the 2016 presidential election. This all gives new significance to former Republican House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy's 2016 admission that "There's two people, I think, Putin pays: [California Representative Dana] Rohrabacher and Trump ... [laughter] ... swear to God." (WaPo)

With that in mind, it's fairly obvious that Republican hierarchy clearly suspected that Trump was compromised.

Knowing what they did about Trump, Republican establishment sounded the alarm when Trump panicked and fired FBI director Jim Comey and subsequently initiated the Special Council investigation into the Trump Russia connection. Next, Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from overseeing the Special Council because he had perjured himself - vis-à-vis his contact with Russian officials - during congressional testimony on two occasions.

When Democrats gained control of the House after the 2018 election, Trump, no doubt, was advised by his counsel to fire Sessions and appoint Republican establishment ringer William Barr. Barr, of course, is an experienced hand at obstructing justice with his previous sabotaging of the Iran-Contra investigation, which subsequently saved Bush I's, and probably Ronald Reagan's, bacon.

To fully grasp Barr's treachery, one has to remember that he is enabling the most serious threat to our nation since World War II. Barr will be complicit in whatever disaster occurs as a result of rendering a dangerous corrupt and incompetent sociopath unaccountable. That's discounting Trump's multiple public episodes of brain malfunction and what the exact neurological cause may be ("agent origin" should seek immediate examination by an actual medical professional not some hand-picked inebriated quack).

Former members of the Trump administration have described Trump as "an idiot", a "@#$% moron", a "moron", "dumb as @#$%", a "dope", etc. These individuals are obviously staunch Republicans, and have provided as objective an assessment of their former bosses' mental acuity as the public is likely to see.

The greed-fueled sociopaths that own and direct the Republican Party formerly were satisfied with the more pedestrian aspects of predatory capitalism. Now, they've upped their game by undermining democratic institutions as well. Apparently, as long as they view Trump as someone who will enable them to further line their pockets, they will protect him damn the consequences. Barr is now their most visible and egregious errand boy.

I'd suggest that the $7.35MM in Russian money that benefitted Republican "leaders" fully supports McCarthy's admission (Prof. Ruth May articles in Dallas Morning News). That was before Russia began funneling it through the NRA. Thus, it's not just Trump's unfitness for office that terrifies me, it's the GOP using his mania to deflect their complicity in completing the Koch corporatracy agenda. Empires come and go, but this greed and selfishness puts sustainable life on Earth in danger. Unfathomable

Well said. Trump's recent use of the phrase "attempted coup" to describe the Mueller investigation is textbook right-wing propaganda jiu jitsu. Trump's election was a fait accompli by far right billionaires - an actual bloodless coup that allowed the complete capture of government agencies by incompetent venal stooges that merrily do the bidding of their masters. And, because Trump is essentially an unhinged anarchist, "life on earth" is indeed "in danger". All the while Republican pols look at their shoes and worry if any resistance to the MAD KING will unleash the primary hounds.
