What is it with the nouveau rich and their must-have private planes and enormous SUV's? These too-big-to-exist conveyances maximize an individual's contribution to pollution and climate change. We, the little people, must eat their exhaust as they fly overhead in their private plane ego machines, and disembark into their eight mile per gallon limousines.
You have to be a climate change denier to indulge in these eat-my-exhaust vehicles of choice, otherwise you would realize you are a first class a**hole and a bogus "conservative" who intends to do nothing of the sort. So screw the kids and future generations, I got mine and I'm gonna flaunt it, and with premium leaded or stinky diesel no less, and because my corporate jet proves I'm better than you.
In addition to these types, we have the environmentalists flying thousands of miles to eco-conferences and, as one wage put it, "If any other of our presidents had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a Hypocrite?" Well, yes.
One more reason the U.S. Government debt has rocketed into the fiscal stratosphere, the Center for Public Integrity reports, is that the Obama administration has increased the government's fleet of limousines by 73 percent. It's a small reason, admittedly. But it's a reason nonetheless. The Obama regime has added 174 limousines in which federal functionaries can ride in style. That increases the number from 238, during the profligate years of Bush the Spender, to 412 today.
Worse, as MarketWire recently reported: "U.S. private jet charter industry leader New Flight Charters reports flight activity for the first quarter of 2011 increased 37.0% over 2010. The company arranged 248 flights during the quarter, over 181 flights for the same period in 2010. A notable increase came in the number of large jet charters, including Gulfstreams, Challengers and Falcons, which increased 278% over 2010 and represented 14% of total charter flights for the quarter. Charters with other size aircraft were up 20.1% overall and proportionally remained constant. All aircraft sectors increased, with the large jet category up exponentially. Costs for large jet charters averaged $45,924 overall for the quarter and included flights to/from Europe, the Caribbean and Hawaii. Leisure flights were the primary type of charter."
What makes the private plane thing so crazy is that most of these egomaniacal types know how to use a computer. Ever hear of teleconferencing? Skype? Fuel efficient vehicles? Carbon offsets? Responsibility to future generations? Fish dying from a warming ocean breeding massive storms and catastrophe? Limiting yourself to one vacation home? Sacrifice for the common good?
Apparently not. So all this high-end nonchalance, denail, and irresponsibility goes on in age of "telepresence" and face-to-face video to anyone around the world. One can excuse a bit of vacation travel for the masses while encouraging stay-cations, but these denial-driving egotists need a lump of shame, and higher fossil-fuel taxes dumped on them. You treat our atmosphere as a sewer for your excessive discharge and we'll figure a way to screw you back. While carbon offsets might help some, what we really need are a**hole offsets!
