While Dubai Ports World is engaged in apparent actions to raise cancer awareness through its Dubai DP World Tour Championship [i], evidence of demonstrated widespread wrongdoings and corruption reveals a dark face and yet another dramatically different reality : Dubai Ports World appears to be indeed itself a spreading plague. [ii]
Currently involved in a series of corruption, misconducts and bribery accusations, before various courts and jurisdictions, the tentacles of DP World have spread like a disease throughout the whole world, mostly in Africa and the Middle East.
DP World's corporate governance is in fact being scrutinized before the High Court in London. The government of Djibouti has accused DP World of corruption fraud and illegal activities in relation to the management of the Dibouti Doraleh Container Terminal and the unlawful winning of its 30-year concession to operate the Terminal. This lawsuit sprang from an investigation on Abrourahman Boreh, accused of misusing his government appointed position to gain personal advantage. It has been shown before the High Court that DP World is liable for offering bribes and secret commissions to Abdourahman Boreh. As a person appointed by and in charge of the interests of the Republic of Djibouti Charles Abrourahman Boreh was effectively by duty bound to defend the Nation interest during the 2006 negotiations for the concession of the Doraleh Container Terminal. DP World's infectious corrupted practices also spread to Senegal another poor country where Dubai port World subsidiary bribed Karim Wade, another notorious political official, who was found guilty by the Senegal High Court of bribery, corruption and illicit wealth appropriation and sentenced to a long penitentiary penalty [iv].
DP World is moreover suspected of serious irregularities being presently investigated at the Port of Algiers, and equally saw its operations suspended for similar reasons at the Port of Aden in Yemen in 2012[v].
