Breaking News! Republicans are now in the process of committing political suicide. That's shocking and totally unexpected but great news for the American people. Now, some will immediately say that this is some kind of a joke, that nothing ot the kind is going to happen, and without concrete proof, it's no more than pure speculation.

Well then, let's discuss this issue and determine if there is far more than just speculation, that the Republican Party is on a path leading to political suicide. What are the signs and indications that this is, indeed, taking place?

During the 2016 Republican presidential campaign, there were 16 other candidates besides Trump running for president. His 16 opponents had little to no use for him, and condemned him in no uncertain terms, calling him totally unqualified, a con artist, a fake Republican, and a pathological liar.

Then, after he, somehow, managed to steal the GOP candidacy from those very vocal but weak candidate, what did they do? They made a 180 degree turn and totally embraced him as their Dear Leader who would make Hillary Clinton wish she had never decided to even campaign. Now, he could do no wrong, his policies became their policies and it was like a political marriage made in heaven.

Since then that bonding of Trump and Republicans has grown ever stronger as it blossomed over the past two years or more. Here are some of Trump's unethical and very questionable moral positions that they so willingly embrace and defend; those that have laid the groundwork for the eventual political collapse of Trump and his minions.

Republicans in Congress, particularly in the Senate, stood by and didn't strongly object when Trump went against most of the nations of the world and withdrew the US. from the Iran Nuclear Treaty, as well as the Paris Climate Accord.

Both of these terrible decisions were against the best interests of the nations of the world. Republicans, who should have made it known that this was a monumental mistake, remained silent and submissive.

When the issue of climate change, so critically important to life on this planet, was referred to by Trump as no more than a hoax and not worth any attention, they totally accepted his proclamation. And by doing that, they saw him as the amateur climate scientist who knew far more than many thousands of real climate experts.

How about the immigration issue? Right now, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, there are 52,398 migrants in detention facilities, the largest number in the agency's history. It is absolutely inhuman the way that ICE and this Trump administration have separated thousands upon thousands of immigrant children from their parents, putting them into cages like a bunch of animals. Who would do such a despicable thing to kids? Who? They are what is called savages.

When he started his trade war with China these Republicans, most of which were for free trade and against a tariff war, quickly bent to his dictates and backed him, even though they knew that this would severely hurt farmers and their families, and raise prices of imported Chinese products.

They were with him when he decided that Obamacare had to be destroyed. He has no intention of ever signing any legislation that would provide a system such as Medicare For All and that's fine with them.

When he tried to put a ban on Muslims coming to this country they seconded the motion. When he clearly shows his disdain for other minorities such as African Americans, Hispanics, Muslims, gays, transgender individuals and others not like him, they see nothing wrong with that kind of racist behavior.

They were 100% behind him when he initiated that $1.5 trillion tax cut for Corporate America and the wealthiest Americans, that left the vast majority of Americans on the outside looking in.

Infrastructure. Trump says he wants to address it, that he is an expert on the matter but, then, he backs out and refuses to do it. What do Republicans say, what do they do? In the words of Sen. Kennedy of Louisiana, they do "nothing, zero, zilch, nada."

These Republicans who are bowing down to Trump's dictates are desperately trying to hold onto his base of supporters in order to be reelected and, therefore, dare not do or say anything against their master who is now in full control of the Republican Partly.

The worst part of this entire bizarre situation is that these Republicans know this president is way out of line and starting to spin out of control. He refuses to do the will of the American people, he is subverting the Constitution, as well as the powers it grants to the Congress. This will simply not be tolerated and will be the downfall of the Republican Party.

It's becoming quite obvious that Trump has clearly come under the "spellbinding influence" of Netanyahu - #ObviousInfluence.

Trump truly "has sabotaged the peace process and squandered the position of his country as a mediator between the Palestinians and Israel".

Trump's unfitness for office totally influenced as he is "by a foreign power", has been hardly noticed by the Republicans except for Republican Rep Amish who supports "impeaching" Trump.

Our House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who's approval is needed for an "impeachment proceeding" for Trump, is "not there yet" - "Trump's 10 Impeachable Offenses". #GetNothingDonePresident.

There will be no downfall of the Republican Party as long as the Democratic Party establishment acts even more suicidally and rigs the election for a horrible warmongering neoliberal like Biden. That Democrats like you don't join progressives in angrily rejecting Biden guarantees the Dem establishment will nominate its worst available candidate--virtually a shoo-in to lose to Trump.

"a horrible warmongering neoliberal like Biden." So true and unfortunate that the GOP is foisting this loser onto the Dem party. How they manage to control these phoney poll numbers and other pro Biden indicators is beyond me. Of the 20 or so viable candidates, we are somehow being convinced the one candidate among them likely to lose is the one who will win the nomination. What kind of nightmare political realm are we living in?

I wouldn't worry about New World Order slimeball Joe Biden in 2020. Between his involvement in Spygate...

...and his complicity in illegal transactions in Ukraine and China:

Biden is toast, and he knows it. He is running for president on the mistaken belief that he cannot be indicted for his crimes, while he is a presidential candidate. He's dead wrong.

Meanwhile, chances are very slim that he will be a free man in autumn of 2020, much less a viable presidential candidate. Only a complete fool would believe that Biden has a shot at winning the presidency. Witless bug-eyed imbecile, former bartender and George Soros political plant Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (aka, "Sandy") has a better chance of attaining the presidency than Biden does, and Sandy still will be five years too young to run in 2020.

It is so very good that they DON'T realize this, if that is indeed the case; however, in political history, one learns to never be so sure...

I personally can see a scenario in which Trump uses the abortion-and-inevitable-Supreme Court clash on that just before the collection,as Richard Viguerie puts it over and over in his strategic news letter, Fed Up, to show that Democrats are, as Richard Viguerie puts it over and over in his strategic news letter, Fed Up, are "violence-prone Socialists," thus bringing about a win for Trump, as abhorrent as that may be. I have written many articles at OEN about Richard Viguerie.

I am no fan at all of Richard Viguerie, but feel impelled to watch what he does and says, like a rancher might know there is a savvy old rattlesnake living next to the Bull Feces out behind the barn, and that rattlesnake as well as the b.s. might be old, and especially the rattlesnake is still dangerous....

Don't forget that his bulk mailings to millions of American Catholic voters about how Jimmy Carter was going to allow abortions for everyone, how this nonsensical tactic actually worked and swung that 1980 election to Ronald Reagan....

The so-called Liberal Media gave Trump billions of dollars in free airtime. From a psychological point of view, it is like saying, 'don't think of pink elephants'. Thus, they in cahoots with the DNC brainwashed enough people to allow this. I contend that the whole US power structure is suicidal. Both parties support endless wars while life expectancy falls, infrastructure collapses, people and the planet are poisoned with chemicals, etc. And the witless public go along with whatever they are told, like lemmings. It is not just Republicans, the West itself is self destructing.

I fully understand your anger and frustrationn with the political establishment in this county, awash with dirty corporate money that poisons the entire process, politicians who refuse to adhere to the principles of ethics and morality, who refuse to do the will of the people. I feel very much the same way.

However, in this polluted system we have only two choices right now. And when I must choose between the two I could never, ever, ever support the despicable president and Republicans for all the reaons I clearly stated above. Without a doubt Democrats have many faults and shortcomings but they do put forth ideas and programs and try to address problems; if you doubt that just check the web and see how many bills they have sent to the Senate that Mitch the turtle has thrown in the trash.

I am now so cynical that when I do vote I base my decision on which party and its members will do the LEAST amount of damage to this country. If Trump and Republicans are able they will create an authoritarian government in America and life in this country will become a living hell.

And Trump: I agree with one person said about him. That he is a despicable human being.

We can agree with that there are only two choices. However, that doesn't mean we have to go along with crap from the Clinton-Biden Democrat establishment and avoid openly saying that our two choices are HORRIBLE. Sanders and Biden don't even belong in the same party, and if the establishment rigs the game for Biden, Bernie should head his own party, as both Greens and the Movement for a People's Party have advocated. Bernie has the most viable ideas and has a attracted a large, devoted following based on those ideas. When he just accepts the bullying of the Biden-Clinton establishment, he disenfranchises all his followers; we have no one electable who represents us. I think Sanders' movement is now big enough that he can risk walking away from Democrats; without the Dem establishment gag order censoring him, he can appeal to the public in an even more honest, appealing way.

Another thing: I think impeaching Trump is a great idea; I just don't want to do it for the wrong and potentially politically suicidal reasons. If Democrats really wanted to impeach Trump, they'd do it for the high crime and misdemeanor of "climate terrorism," which brilliantly summarizes what Trump's climate policy amounts to. This way of impeaching Trump would call out the whole Republlican Party for collusion in that climate terrorism, paving the way for a Dem landslide in 2020. And by avoiding all grounds for impeachment connected with the Mueller report, Dems would stop looking partisan and would stop reminding people of their own despicable role in propagating Russiagate.

Republicans' commitment as a party to climate denial is BY FAR their worst form of political suicide, and with public opinion now inevitably swinging in favor of climate action, Democrats would be IDIOTS not to exploit this gargantuan Achilles heel.

Impeaching Trump for climate terrorism would bring fresh, bold thinking and a fresh breath of air to the festering swamp of Washington.

I'd be very cautious about backing Bernie Sanders so resolutely. First off (and most importantly), he sold out in '16, when he should have protested vehemently HRC's theft of at least a dozen primaries from him, along with a portion of his campaign contributions through the proprietary DNC voter database NGP-VAN.

Now why would he have permitted that when he clearly had the goods on HRC, and the momentum on his side in the summer of '16?

He's either greedy or compromised--there is no other excuse. I say it's some of both.

Sanders is a globalist--specifically, a globalist who reputedly was enthralled with deceased traitor John McCain.

A too-little known fact: McCain was integral in leaking the Christopher Steele dossier (really the Glenn Simpson/FusionGPS dossier) to the FBI, and then shopping it around to treasonous mainstream-media concerns after the 2016 election. McCain's knowledge of the dossier stemmed from its constituting a revised edition of a similar dossier that Obama successfully used to sabotage McCain during the 2008 Presidential Election.

Anyway, Bernie Sanders is likely not who you think he is. I discovered that myself, having advocated for him through the first half of 2016. If he is the best the Democratic Party has to offer in 2020, the Democrats have no chance, as Sanders will never be able to answer why he took such an inexplicable dive in 2016.

Try to think more deeply and you might have a far more insightful and comprehensive view of what is going on. To condemn Democrats and give a free pass to the GOP Sociopathic Party is political blindness. When R's gave a $1.5 trillion tax gift to Big Business and the wealthiest Americans and virtually nothing to workers that tells the whole story.

Corporate America has polluted, poisoned this entire political system and it is the greatest threat to what is left of our democracy. Nothing can change to any great extent until the vice grip that it holds around the neck of this government is broken. How in the world might that happen the vast majority of the politicians of both political parties are hooked on corporate campaign funds I don't know. But we can't ever give up trying to decontaminate the system.

You are missing the fact that a whole lot of those immigrants and minorities are ALSO exploited workers. You do realize that in our heyday as a manufacturing giant, union membership was not a "white" thing, right? And you also realize that by far the largest recipient group of welfare is poor whites? This link is for a credit repair site, but the article is factual, succinct, and well written. It lays out the actual use of welfare by race/ethnicity. And also the fact that a lot of workers are also welfare recipients.

"American worker" is used an awful lot by not only socialists, but white supremacists. The meanings are totally different, and your following it up with pejorative descriptions of POC tends to make me think you meant it in the latter sense.

I agree with you that the Ds have abandoned their base of working people, but they haven't done any favors for other downtrodden groups, either.

About 40% of Americans still support Trump and the GOP. It's hard to believe but true. I don't think they will stop their support. They live in an alternate reality manufactured by Fox News, AM Talk radio, etc. Our only hope is to go after the swing voters.

And, besides getting out this important vote, we must convince all other Americans that Trump and his Republican lemmings are the greatest threat to our Constitution that this country has ever seen. What is so troubling is that so many Americans who see this massive danger, including some that comment on this website, are giving Trump a free pass to do this while they continue to condemn the Democrats. That is appalling, that is pathetic, and disgusting.

We're certainly in a pickle. I too tend to be critical of far-left progressives who say things like, "The Dems are as bad as the Republicans." On many issues, the Dems are clearly better than the Repugs. Even Hillary, who was way too hawkish, would have been far, far better on women's right, immigration, international treaties, nuclear arms control, the environment, and taxation. I understand where the anti-Dem progressives are coming from, but I think they're destructive. If you don't choose the lesser-of-two-evils, you end up with the worse of two evils.

Hillary Clinton's campaign bungling lost three key states, which provided Trump a path to the White House. The crazy, antiquated Electoral College sealed the deal.

Trump has always known how to use power to get more power. He went after his opponents with harsh nicknames, repeated verbatim by a supine press. The name calling stuck and influenced voters. Democrats did not reciprocate with nicknames like "cheating Donald," "corrupt Donald," "Dangerous Donald" - Ralph Nader.

We condemn Democrats for distracting us with a lying self-serving narrative about Trump's collusion with Russia while ignoring his attempts to launch illegal aggressive wars that could kill millions and cost billions. We also condemn Democrats for not attacking the climate terrorism of Trump's energy policies, which, if continued, could kill billions and cost trillions. Considering the lives and costs at stake, the focus on Russiagate was a reprehensible waste, and the Mueller investigation is so tainted in the mind of the public by the Russiagate witch hunt that prompted it that focusing on the Mueller report as primary ground for impeachment will just look partisan and self-serving. How anyone can think Trump's dangerous, ILLEGAL attempts at regime change and climate terrorism aren't "high crimes and misdemeanors" worthy of impeachment--indeed, they're FAR more potentially harmful to our nation and world than ANYTHING else he's done--is beyond me.

The two parties are the flip sides of the corporate coin. One side is blatant in the authoritarianism, the other has on a velvet glove. Is the velvet glove a tiny bit more bearable than the bare fist? Well, yes. But barely.

The democrats DESERVE condemnation - the party, not individuals. The DNC, the DCCC, the machinery deserve all the condemnation they can get.

This isn't a football game, where the red and blue teams get all rah rah and then go have a beer. The dignity of all people - the continued existence of all people, in fact - should not be compromised on the altar of party loyalty.

That said, if you live in a swing state, you have to do what you have to do, no matter how repugnant.

From your bio it seems you may be some kind of a Democrat but who has a difficult times seeing the true difference between the two parties. So we need to ask some questions to push the clouds out of the way.

Well, then, all you have to do in the next 2020 election is choose between a highly faulted Democratic Party and its candidate and a Republican Party that accepts and condones misogyny, racism and hatred of minorities, that includes African Americans, Hispnics, Asian Americans, Muslims and others like gays and transgender individuals, that is determined to control women's bodies, that locks immigrant children in cages, among other cruel acts against fellow Americans who do not look like or think like themselves.

Put aside all the rhetoric about how the parties are exactly the same and there is no difference,that complete nonsense, and tell all of us;

Show us who you really are and what you stand for; will you vote Republican or Democratic in the 2020 election???

You mean you're already ASSUMING Biden will be the nominee? If you were a real progressive, you'd be fighting tooth and nail--as I am--to stop that abominable nomination and prevent a repeat of 2016 from happening.

I used to consider myself a Democrat. I left the party after 2016. I now am Independent, just like my preferred candidate.

As long as the DCCC and DNC keep their thumb on the scale for the Corporate whores, I will not be associated with them. You want misogyny? How about Dan Lipinski, and how the DCCC is supporting him over the progressive challenger, Marie Newman? You want racism? Just do due diligence on Biden.

Trump is a monster. So is McConnell - maybe even more so. But in real life, almost everything boils down to economic policy, and there is only a hairs breadth between the parties on that. Given both houses and a huge mandate, Obama let the healthcare industry write the ACA instead of pushing for single payer. Look at Pelosi blowing off the GND. The Dems largely wrote the laws that are now oppressing POC.

And if Biden is the nominee, I will vote third party for the third time. Not that it matters. I am in a red state that will not vote for a democrat again for decades. That's why I said if you are in a swing state, do what you gotta. If you are in a solid state, vote your conscience.

You just described how and why the political system in this country no longer works and never will as long as so many people are responsible for monsters like Trump and McConnell getting elected and reelected. How very sad. When someone's body has been invaded by cancer that poisonous element must be removed immediately and then there will be time to see if there are other lesser conditions present that need to be addressed.

The Personal Governance Party has a secret plan to subvert all enemies of the Constitution, and insist on direct representation in all social and legal contracts. DONALD J. TRUMP says he acts unpredictable. He can be fired!

Rep. Amash, acting as a true American patriot, has emerged and is giving his fellow Republicans a way out of this dilemma.

You may be giving Amash too much credit here. Remember, he came to power in the Tea Party sweep of 2010, and he is a founding member of the "Freedom Caucus", an extreme right-wing side of the House that has members like Goober Gohmert.

Amash may just be seeing an opportunity to give Trump the boot and install the even worse Pence as POTUS. Hello, Theocracy. (I don't care for long red dresses and white bonnets.)
