Donald Trump is president and Republicans control just about everything.

Meanwhile Democratic Party leaders who paved the way for this Republican resurgence seem to view themselves as natural leaders in the fight against Trump, known as the "Resistance."

But are they up to the challenge?

Recall how badly they screwed up in 2016.

In capturing the Republican nomination, Trump became the most disliked presidential nominee in recent times.

This presented Democrats with an opportunity to not only keep the White House, but also make big gains in the House and Senate.

Instead Democrats rigged their own primaries, allowing Trump to face the second most-disliked nominee in recent times, Hillary Clinton.

Now the folks who helped pull this off want to lead the Resistance.

2018

Democrats face an uphill fight in the 2018 elections.

In the Senate, Democrats must defend 23 seats, compared to just eight for Republicans. Meanwhile gerrymandered House districts continue to favor Republicans (who control most state legislatures, which draw the districts).

On top of this, the right-wing Koch network is expected to again pour in big money to back Republicans, including as much as $400 million ahead of the 2018 elections. In 2016, the Koch network targeted eight senate races, winning seven.

Still, it's possible to defeat the Kochs and Republicans, as President Obama's two terms show.

With the 2018 election on the horizon, the good news for Democrats is there's a groundswell of energy and anger, and a growing determination to take on Trump.

The bad news is the party's leaders are reluctant to unleash this tidal wave, possibly fearing they might be swept up in it themselves.

Democratic leaders are corrupt frauds. They have no choice but to hype up pointless scandals that further damage the country because they represent the rich elite ( just a little less than most Republicans)

The idea that the Democratic Party offers any "resistance" to the blood sucking thieves who run this Country is a very bad joke. The Democratic Party, like the Republican Party, represents the interests of the blood sucking thieves ("the 1%"). And anyone who is surprised that the Democratic Party is not accepting of any progressive policies (whether presented by Bernie Sanders or anyone else) is truly out of touch with the facts and reality. Sanders has been co-opted to act as a shill for the Democratic Party. His job is to help defraud the progressives into believing that the party represents them and supports their policies...more of the "lesser evil" nonsense that we have heard for the last 30 years. If the progressives really want to resist the right wing takeover of this Country (which is now complete) the first step they must take is to leave the Democratic Party. DO IT NOW! Hopefully we can form a progressive party and win at the ballot box. If we could get a progressive candidate on the ballot I have no doubt that he/she would win. As for those who bought the absurdity that Hillary Clinton was a progressive candidate I have no advice other than to change your sources of information to sources with some integrity and perhaps tune in your brains to a better wavelength. As for Sanders, we need to face the fact that he is a traitor to the progressive cause. He is now nothing but a carnival barker for the corrupt and reprehensible Democratic Party. Forget Bernie. Leave the Democratic Party and resist through nonviolent civil disobedience. That is what we can do now. We must then move towards forming a progressive party.

Resistance, my ASS. These Dems agree with all the wars of choice, milking the people, and fascism esp for the health care for ransom mafia. The left right paradigm is a con for simpletons. The only thing they fight over is who is right hand of the king.

The party died officially last June. The image it projects is like that of a star obliterated light years ago, but whose faint glow is still visible on earth.

The American Democratic party is somewhat akin to the British Labour Party .
Tony Blair , like Obama , was the great hope in politics but the two of them proved to be simply cardboard cut outs for the globalists with no substance what so ever .
Witness the result . The Labour party is not looking likely to be trusted by the public in the foreseeable future . Some say that it's dead and buried .
I would suggest that the same fate awaits the DNC .

Agreed with most of the above. But what to do?
Our only hope of getting away from this FVD (Fascism with a veneer of Democracy) is to go to ranked choice voting. As it is, if you vote for a more extreme proponent of your views, you are cutting the throat of the centrist candidate who at least mentions your concerns. However both corporate parties know the danger to themselves of ranked choice voting. This makes it extremely difficult to introduce it. But if all progressives focus on it . . . it may have a chance. It is our only real hope.
