Let's take a bottom-up approach to dealing with Covid-19 and share information, observations, updates, ideas and resources on how to survive this crazy, never-before-seen situation. Five days ago, I said this was worse than a war invasion. Now everyone is comparing this to WWII. I've always been a science fiction fan-- reading and watching stories about apocalypse, about world changing events. We are living in the middle of one. One thing is clear. We're all in this together, and even if we have to stay home we can still help each other.
Now the word is, assume you are a carrier and don't be in contact with others.
80-% of Chinese were infected by people who did not know they were infected
40% of infected are under 50. Younger people ARE susceptible. Don't go to beaches or playgrounds or basketball courts.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has suspended the requirement to pay mortgages for three months. But what about renters?
Trump just came on TV again. He looks particularly orange today. Not talking about the virus, he's discussing the release of a prisoner. He is disgusting, using the crisis to promote himself, to pander to his hater base. He should hand the handling of the crisis over to a non-partisan, well respected grown-up who will become the voice leading the response to the crisis.
Trump is talking about helping afflicted industries. It makes me think of the big grand hotels in the US and Canada. They are owned by Saudis. Do we help them? Maybe, because the employees are Americans.
But Paul Craig Roberts told me that we should start nationalizing to enable debt forgiveness. He talks about doing it with the banks. But maybe, if the government helps companies, it should also get partial or complete ownership-- so the people own the companies, since we're paying to rescue them.
Shock Doctrine. Naomi Klein wrote a brilliant book that described how predatory leaders and capitalists use crises to take-- to take advantage for profit, to take away freedoms, to take control. There is no doubt that this is something we have to be vigilant about. Add in the comments how you see that happening.
Sanders 'Conserving Resources' by Pulling Ads - Denies He Is Suspending Campaign (Good. There are months to go until the convention, which will probably not even be held live. A lot can change. Biden is really not showing up. His seven minute talks don't cut it in a time of crisis. Bernie should be doing daily long conversations
Taking Public Transportation: I just spoke with a friend who took a flight recently. There were 6 people on the plane. I spoke to him while he was on a train and he was the only person in the car.
That whole 80% will be okay narrative is bullshit. They say that 80% of people won't be hit hard by the virus. But How many of those 80% will lose loved ones? My guess it will be at least half of them will lose someone they know. And how many of those 80% will infect people in the 20%? I just found out my 39 y/o daughter probably has it. She can't be tested, and her doctor has tried to set up testing, and, with her asthma, she's high risk.
