While Corporations sit on trillions in profits, ship jobs overseas and unemployment increases, an impotent Congress sits on the chests of the American people! Turning a routine debt limit increase into a major drama designed to make people think their Congressmen are working, Congress continues to jeopardize America! Where is that little blue pill when you need it?
- Every Republican wants and has already voted for 'slash and burn' cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. They refuse to stand up to the corporations that own them. Grover Norquist has won their hearts and minds! Norquist and his scorched earth disciples have the pledges, signed in blood, to prove the GOP allegiance to corporations and the wealthiest. Maybe the Republicans need to sign The Pledge of Allegiance instead! Think Ryan's plan is bad? Cut, Cap and Balance is worse! It makes draconian cuts to all social safety net programs, immediately! Not if you are younger than 55, but right now!
- The Democrats, with few exceptions, have proven to be spineless. They are not blameless. They have acquiesced to almost every demand made by the GOP. No tax increase for the wealthiest of corporations, no cuts to tax loopholes. Then there are the fake Democrats; those who vote to support Republican effort, but sit with the Democratic caucus. At least the Democrats have not signed the Norquist pledge. If any have, they are hiding in the weeds. Democrats are also guilty of selling pieces of themselves to corporations and more often than not, do the corporate bidding and not the bidding of their constituents.
- The Tea Party in Congress deserves their own category because they are a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Industries, and many of them do not even realize that the Koch Brothers are their financial backers, their masters. The day they were sworn into office, David Koch was there to meet and greet them. A welcome to Koch's Washington! These right wing extremists are notorious for their simplistic view, but don't need to know anything about anything, because their Congressional leader is Michele Bachmann. She and her 'flat-earth' followers are of the belief that it will be fine to default on the debt and God will save us. God will save us from anything, even migraines! And if God doesn't intervene, they will say they resurrected the Founding Fathers and spoke to them during their weekly seances. Oh! For the good old days!
- And then there are two senior members of Congress, Bernie Sanders and Barney Frank. Sanders and Frank may be two of the older members, but they are the only two who don't seem to need that little blue pill. Agree with them or not, Sanders and Frank have a spine AND they have a working brain!
When you, as a member of Congress refuse to raise the debt ceiling for a budget that you have already approved, you have systemic problems or you are playing games. I vote for both! Either take a pill or get your act together. If the government defaults for the first time in history, members of Congress should be the first to suffer the consequences. Their pay and benefits should be cut to zero. Immediately! No reimbursements! No collection of back pay. Force them to wait for 3 months (like the rest of us) to reinstate their health insurance.
Both sides have agreed that spending cuts need to be made, but to tie that philosophy with the debt ceiling increase is insanity. Fight about cuts later! Congress has spent months on this, ignoring every other issue that this country faces, the key issue being jobs!
When this Congress, which may go down in history as being the worst ever, is so totally impotent, where is that little blue pill?
