Children with Chemical and Electromagnetic Sensitivities at School

Children with multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) and electrical hypersensitivity (EHS, also called radiowave sickness), increasingly prevalent conditions in our polluted world, face debilitating symptoms in school environments where chemical and electromagnetic exposures can impede their ability to study.

Through survey research, Yasuko Kato reveals the situation these children face in Japan, a country distinguished by its emphasis on inclusivity and homogeneity (home schooling is rare, but stronger efforts are made to help disabled children participate). The difficulties these children face in Japan, however, are similar to those being reported in America1, Canada2 and the UK3. In each of these countries, media suppression leads to misunderstanding of the children's condition and delays remediation. Childhood and adolescence are hard enough without stigmatization on account of a health condition.

Ms. Kato publishes books and articles in Japanese and English on the difficulties faced by the growing number of people with environmental sensitivities. Through the Life-environment Network, which she directs, she lobbies for improvements.

Her article, "Children with EHS/MCS and environmental issues in Japanese schools," can be read here.

Incidentally, the average level of radiofrequency radiation globally is said to be about a quintillion times greater than in the environment in which humanity evolved. It is growing rapidly, too, with the addition of smart meters and now 5G. Thus EHS, already said to affect between 4 and 8 percent of the population in countries studied, is set to become a much bigger issue. There are also concerns about the long-term effects of all this man-made radiation on the seemingly unaffected.

Healthy individuals also face the possibility of getting radiofrequency sickness from continued exposure. According to Katherine Kleiber in "No Your Patient Is Not Crazy", there are studies showing that the pulsed microwave modulations used in modern telecommunications, including smart meters, are very potent biologically.

My link to the source of the quintillion figure seems to have failed. This figure is attributed to Olle Johanssen, Associate Professor of neuroscience at the Karolinska Institute See this. However, his original article in 2014 stated that our maximum exposure standards are one quadrillion to one quintillion (10 to the 18th) times higher than natural background radiation. It would be fair to ask which frequencies he refers to, and I do not have the answer, but one should note that those with their ears to phones that according to industry standards are not supposed to be held any closer than a centimeter to the body, or people carrying them in bras or pockets are getting local exposures in excess of the quintillion figure.

When 5G rolls out, it will be a health problem for everyone, not just the "sensitive". 5G intends to turn communities into virtual microwave ovens. Nobody inside the fields that will be generated will be able to get away from the constant assault by high-frequency EM radiation on their bodies and brains.

5G is madness, and needs to be strongly challenged by the public at large.

OMG, I thought no one would be interested in this! Thank you, Devil's Advocate! I chose "sensitivity" and "children" in the title to reach out to progressives, but they may be taking so much flack with terms like "snowflake" that they might be turning away. But what kind of a world are we leaving for our children?

"Sensitive" has been a polite way for the already poisoned to conveniently shoot themselves in the foot. In the abominably cruel LD50 toxicity tests, 50% of the test animals survive, after all. Likewise, some people are going to succumb more easily due to factors such as already having received high doses in the past, being weakened by other toxins or diseases, or even just body size or shape. Genetics I consider a minor factor, epigenetics major.

5G is very worrisome. I wonder if all the new illness it will cause can be successfully swept under the carpet this time. I would write about 5G specifically, but there is so much good information out there already. See Firstenberg's appeal against 5G deployment

Oh, I don't discount that some of us are markedly more sensitive to wireless emissions. That's already a proven fact. Those people are going to be the first to get sick from it all.

There's many of us in the tech circles that are absolutely terrified by the move toward 5G. We honestly don't know how it ever managed to make it past the drawing board to the manufacturing stage.

There's even a video on YouTube right now made by a tower linesman, describing how saddened he is by the development, and apologizing in advance for everything he is about to do to the world, all because he hasn't got any options but to keep his job. I've embedded it here...

Thank you for posting the video and for your insights. It sounds paranoiac to say it, but my husband is sitting here saying they intend it as a weapon. The haste to get it in space is a particular concern, and with the US now creating a space force and national security necessitating top secrecy, and then you hear about a lot of elites buying bunkers in New Zealand and inquiring into ways to control the help. You connect all the dots and it looks awfully suspicious.

The "interesting" part is, you can call it a weapon, simply because of what it is, but the question would be, who would not be on the receiving end of it? The emitters have to be everywhere, saturating the landscape and around every corner.

I've heard this idea of elites setting up bunkers for a variety of causes, but there's a lot of holes in that plan. I'm sure these people don't want to live in subterranean environments, with no natural sun and no access to their oceanside paradises. And, if everyone on the surface is getting sick from EMFs or nuclear fallout, how will they sustain their own needs? A lot of really problematic questions come up with that one.

Trump's "Space Force" sounds like the title of another B-movie, but it reminds me of Reagan's "Star Wars" project. Weaponizing space is certainly a scary concept, but it's also plagued with obstacles, such as deployment logistics and astronomical costs. I believe there's also some sort of global agreement to NOT do it (though we know how the U.S. honours such things). We may never see such a thing materialize in our lifetimes.

Corporate greed know no bounds, so I agree that is probably what is behind this. They are free to poison the environment with practically any chemical they want, health be damned, these days. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 basically says "health be damned," worded a bit differently. (Environmental concerns will not be considered a reason to deny siting of telecom facilities.)

OTOH,millimeter waves are already being used in crowd control technology. Furthermore, 5G relies on phased arrays, as apparently that is what is needed to penetrate walls so that all our gadgets can talk to each other--IoT really is a grandiose scheme. With steerable beams, wouldn't the possibility exist to actually target individuals?

"...millimeter waves are already being used in crowd control technology."

Yes, and their also using sound cannons. I think both are reprehensible methods that should have been rejected at the proposal stage. (Whatever happened to "reasonable force"?)

IoT technology is a fool's wish, and the realization of a wet dream TPTB have had for a very long time. Combined with GPS, voice recognition, facial recognition, and the many toys being supplied to law enforcement, the human species is doomed by its own stupidity.

People seem all too eager to enslave themselves, or melt their brains, whichever comes first.

Patricia, I feel that you are grabbing the bull by the horns. I have tried this

by myself and found it unpleasant, to say the least. Bravo for you!

I trust DA for his support and knowledge/awareness.

DA is sharp. I'm glad to have his feedback and participation.

A lot of people have to grab the bull by the horns or be gored these days. There are forums where people can open up and speak freely about this. Mercola's is probably the biggest. Initially, I had to field a lot of trollery even there, but the atmosphere was generally supportive and it seems to have paid off.

Here on Op-Ed News I'm not preaching to the choir. I'm facing much less resistance now than I was seven or so years ago. I was amazed at how the editor facilitated my posting this time. I figured "General" would be the category for health-related and society, but he or she put this in Op-Eds with the hot political topics.

I'm still just learning how to approach the public with this. I wince sometimes when I see better, much more experienced writers than I take a stab at it. If you get one technical detail wrong it will be used to dismiss you, and there is a fine line to walk between expressing urgency and fear mongering. You might as well be writing a PhD dissertation. I think the best approach right now is to focus on what is actually happening to children. Yasuko Kato is a real asset to us with her methodical approach. She is working with Olle Johnasson and other major scientific researchers in this field.

Thank you for your supportive words!
