The British Foreign Office has banned Russian outlets RT and Sputnik from attending the upcoming Global Conference on Media Freedom in London, citing their predilection for "disinformation".

"We have not accredited RT or Sputnik because of their active role in spreading disinformation," said a Foreign Office spokeswoman.

"It takes a particular brand of hypocrisy to advocate for freedom of press while banning inconvenient voices and slandering alternative media; sadly, the world has learned to expect just that from the UK Foreign Office," RT said in a statement in response.

"It amounts to direct politically motivated discrimination of the Russian channel," said the Russian embassy in London. "The refusal of accreditation comes on top of the months-long smear campaign against RT by British political figures, governmental bodies, including media regulator Ofcom, and even fellow journalists."

"Now a leading Russian international TV channel is denied access to the forum, despite being officially registered and working in the UK, on legal grounds," the embassy added. "What better illustration of the real situation with media freedom in the UK does one need? Yet the organizers of the Conference, as far as we understand, wish to discuss the situation with media freedom anywhere in the world, but not in this country."

What an absolute and utter farce! RT is one of the first sites I go to on a regular basis for real news. I never watch American so-called called mainstream media news, aka utter insanity from the CIA & Co. Aren't these UK clowns the same ones who helped us get into Iraq and kill a few million innocent people, for Dick Cheney's oil? And doesn't that list go on and into whatever might be defined as eternity?

What, exactly, is going on with Amal Clooney?

Chrystia Freeland may feel "safe" in attending because climate change is top of mind in Canada, during this election year. Julian? Pretty quiet.

The Trudeau government is talking out of two sides of their mouths about climate change. What they say about it, and what they actually do, are two completely different things.

You don't hear a thing about Assange, nor do you hear anything about anything else Canada is kissing American ass on. Nothing about Meng Wanzhou (Hwawei CFO), Nothing about Freeland's role in the creation of LIMA, etc. Nothing about anything important.

Caitlin is a total gas. I ran into RT when I was still watching TV in California. Here in CR TV is pretty much a waste of time, last time I looked CNN's airport loop and FOX dominated the news scene and the Spanish subtitles to old reruns was the only thing useful for me as it's a great way to soak up some vernacular. So the menu called RT "Rental" or something, and it was interesting because it covered a wider scope of events, many which were being ignored at home. Then a host of characters erupted, some interesting; all overdone, being told I was loved, and recoiling from the snarling, conceited little Jon Stewart Wannabe, but the one that stood out was a lovely, brilliant newscaster called Oxana ***** with whom it was hard to even keep up, as she challenged all kinds of interviewees with awkward, complex questions. Then, along came Trump, and a subtle shift to weird support for him, or a reluctance in any even to disparage behavior for which he was being routed at home. I lost interest in them, and also stopped with TV altogether, finding the internet a far more convenient way to track the world here in the tropics. I've never been a "Patriot", my allegiance ended when I was 8 and they stuck the words "under God" into the pledge. I smelled that rat, resented it boldly to the teacher as I recall, and set out on my singular appreciation for what was good in the world. And Caitlin Johnson is hot stuff. Question: was FOX invited? (**** I was once literally kicked in the head by a horse, and since have had a severe name block.)

"...was FOX invited?"

You can be sure the ENTIRE mainstream enjoys the label of "accredited and authoritative". These government stenographers won't even need an invite.

Fox went along with the canard that Assange (my litmus test) was not a journalist. In other words they've made the right sorts of obsequious noises to be allowed gang membership. We need to coin a new term capturing the original meaning of "journalist" which has apparently died an untimely death, officially assigned the meaning of "yellow journalist."

Fox did allow Tucker Carlson to speak in defense of Assange. Likewise, the New York Times, Guardian and USA Today did not shut out all dissent, but they all did quite a magnificent job of kicking a hero to the rest of us when he was down.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with the Tucker Carlson stuff. Every so often he gets to drop a total truth bomb, unspoiled, while literally calling out various others. He gets away with that, and I don't understand how, considering the present state of MSM culture.

Sometimes I feel this is a game being played on the public, but I can't say I can see what the angle would be.

It's really interesting to see how differently some of these mainstream personalities present things when they end up working for RT. People like Ed Schultz (R.I.P.), Rick Sanchez, Jesse Ventura, etc. show how much they've had to say, pent up for so long, because they were prevented from saying it. Without the restrictions, well, it's just telling.

Fascinating! I'm over in Japan, so I know nothing of these people except second hand. The last time I was in the States and saw a TV there, it was at a hospital so I couldn't throw it out the window like I wanted to and there were medics nearby in case I burst a vein.

I watched a chunk of Amal Clooney's presentation. She appeared to go as far as she felt "permitted" on Julian's behalf.

Not even Orwell thought this one up! A good example of "doublespeak," but closing the Overton Window! I guess a lot of credit should go to Edward L. Bernays.

Is it possible term limits should be set for congressmen as well as for Presidents? It's mostly old codgers making all the trouble, harking back to a yesteryear, when they were stars and ran the world; or rather when they were running the world into the ground.

Just seeing Henry Kissinger again makes my blood boil, he was such a cynical old monster. What is he even doing here? Slogging around in yesteryear.

Did you catch the fact that the basement of the White House is flooding? I'ts built on a swamp, they say. Time to drain it !
