ABORTION IS NOT A SIN - THE BOOK
by Kent Welton
"We are not bodies with souls but souls with bodies"
A salute today to doctors who fulfil women's reproductive needs...
Over twenty years ago I wrote Abortion Is Not A Sin – A New-Age Look At an Age-Old Problem. The effort was to give young women in particular a greater moral, philosophical and spiritual perspective on the issue of pregnancy termination. Then, as now, the country was awash not only with children having children but also with anti-abortion groups, right-to-life fanatics, and outright clinic-busting terrorists and doctor killers.
Today, we see again that the struggle never ends. Only months ago we had the Bush administration attempting to define contraception as abortion! This was yet another effort to criminalize abortion and cut off all family planning funds – at a time when the earth is drowning in overpopulation and resource scarcity.

I respect those who passionately believe in their "pro-life" position but the problem is that so many of this persuasion do not grant the same courtesy to those who disagree. Worse, they expect to make their view the policy of the state(s). Stop right there - Get your Church Outta my State, and your dogma outta of our wombs!
I am old enough to remember the situation before Roe v. Wade when young girls and women were forced to take off to Mexico or Canada to end their pregnancies. It was an underground and needlessly expensive, dangerous, and stressful affair given that the Catholic Church had managed to make slaves of women in the United States and many other countries. We can also include the Christian fundamentalists and Ayatollahs of the world who still mandate an imperialism of the womb.... dictated by an invisible male god.
Even with a new supreme court justice, if we are not vigilant reproductive freedom will be sharply curtailed once again. In effect, the state(s) will own your body and its issue. Exactly this fascist policy comes from people who shout about "freedom" and their being "conservative," "moral," and "compassionate."
I’m sorry I don’t buy their so-called morality, compassion, or sky-god beliefs. Regardless, the "pro-life" people want all women girls (as young as ten) to be forced to accept their views and give birth against their will and better judgment. They also want all others who disagree with their policies to accept the incredible expensive social costs of this intrusive madness and parental irresponsibility. Their "compassion" runneth over into totalitarian control of your person and a future increasingly decimated by too many people.
In any case, there were then, and remain today, few books on abortion that examine the issue from a wider, more inclusive, spiritual perspective and this is the very gap I tried to fill – successfully, I guess, because it was called by one clinic worker "the best book on abortion I have read" - see panditpress.com for information and Amazon order link.
"The soul within the fetus cannot be destroyed by any kind of abortion... The majority of souls who are reincarnating enter the fetus shortly before, during or after birth. If the mother is considering an abortion, the soul will be aware of that and can choose not to incarnate. If the soul enters the fetus and the fetus is aborted, the soul continues on to other lives. Some souls seek the in utero experience and do not wish to be born. According to Seth, there is no actual death in the universe; even the cells of the fetus reincarnate."
"And he(the Pope) is against abortion. Why should these people be against abortion? On the one hand they go on talking about the immortality of the soul... then why be against abortion? The soul is immortal so there is no sin at all. All that you have done by abortion is you have prevented the soul getting into this body. The soul will find another body. That’s what abortion is: The soul says ‘May I come in, Madam’ and you say ‘no, the place is too crowded, knock at some other door."
So if the soul is immortal and life/consciousness doesn’t end via death, then it also does not "begin" at conception. This is the fundamental difference between the religious views on the subject. The views of the enlightened ones and experiments with many subects under hypnosis (covered in my book) confirm the "eastern" perspective.
So what we have here then is a religious pogrom against those who do not buy the idea that life begins at conception. Given this starting point, the "pro-life" people accept the freedom-destroying position that the state should thus protect life and take over a woman’s freedom from the very day they become pregnant... and regardless of whether any woman or child had any intention to do so, experienced a failure of contraception, or even endured rape.
This dogma is both old and dangerous, particularly in a new world struggling with overpopulation and on-going collapse of natural resources.
Since publishing the book, I have received both death threat missives and also many letters from women and young girls grateful to have come across the book. You may know someone who can use a little different perspective on the matter.
