We live in a time of posers and posturing, certainly not problem solvers, particularly when it comes to our lawmakers.

A perfect example revealed itself in this mornings Baltimore Sun newspaper with this headline, "GOP makes poverty priority, Shift in tone seen as strategy for midterms". [1]

Apparently the intent of the Repubs was to "recast the party's message about tackling poverty and boosting the middle class." [2] Oh yeah! This from the crowd that wants to cut back food stamps, Medicaid, opposes raising the minimum wage, attacks Medicare and wants to privatize Social Security.

The bottom line is when it comes to rectifying real problems and issues these gas bags have a hard time finding the men's room no less tackling the issues or more likely getting the issues waylaid in obstructionism. As for you Democrat true believers that goes for Dems lawmakers as well.

Yet from here it's all meant to be this way; harrumph about the other side, threaten a filibuster, create a distraction, keep things riled up while quietly at the same time pass the spending bills for the bloated defense industry, the clandestine intelligence and surveillance operations of the NSA, CIA while expanding joint special ops all over the world in our bogus global war on terror.

Yesterday the Senate passed a bill extending unemployment benefits for the long time unemployed but then it has to be sent to the House where in all likelihood it'll get bogged down by mean spirited tea baggers unless the cost of extending the benefits is offset by some idiotic tax cut so the federal deficit won't be increased.

It's all part of the process to serve our true masters, those giant oil and gas corporations, the big banks, Big Pharma, the private health care monopoly et al that control the political process and the all important political agenda; all to keep them happy with laws and regulations and little oversight that goes to their benefit. All done while at the same time squeezing the middle class and expanding the poor by outsourcing jobs, closing domestic manufacturing operations, crippling small local business operations that can't compete with the Wal-Mart's and Home Depot's   and other big box operators who offer sub standard wages, few benefits and vehemently oppose unionization of their workers.

This didn't just happen haphazardly not when there's oil depletion allowances, rescue of the big banks with billions in bail outs even after they created the financial meltdown and the great recession, a single payer Medicare type health system for all was prevented from being offered as an alternative and compete with the private health care behemoths. Something that would surely have reduced health care costs, but the single payer advocates weren't even allowed to sit at the table in discussing health care reform.

So it's not because real answers and solutions aren't available or unknown; they are.

Name any issue or problem from the myriad number we face in this country whether its soaring private health care costs and outrageous medication costs, soaring college student loan debt to building levees to withstand fierce hurricanes to dubious "fracking" operations in many states to name just a few that come to mind where real answers and solutions could be implemented. But don't expect the sycophants in office to do anything about them.

As mentioned earlier, real answers and solutions are known and available. Again, they're simply not meant to be implemented because the big moneyed corporate interests that control the electoral process and political agenda have no interest in doing so. Of course real answers and solutions would be in the people's interests but they're not the ones our office holders represent.

Go back to 2005, Hurricane Katrina and the category 5 hurricane that flooded and inundated New Orleans poorest 9 th ward. The Army Corps of Engineers knew and reported years before Katrina the existing levees were insufficient to withstand a category 3 hurricane much less Katrina's category 5.   But of course nothing was done to rectify the levee's incapacity and we know what was resulted.

In the Netherlands, a country below sea level, they're fully aware of the ravages from North Sea storms that could inundate the country. Solution; build embankments to withstand the worst possible storms. That's a people based solution obviously made by a people based elected government.
