In remembrance of the poet great Charles Simic who passed away on January 9, 2023. The multi-award winning poet, my favorite, was the former Poet Laureate of the US in 2007. He said he retired after one term because he tired of answering emails instead of writing.

Little Charles Simic

Was the same

Charles Simic at play

Under a table with toy soldiers

Shooting and falling

Under his nanny's pleats

Her fingers guiding him

In the living room

Of his home in Belgrade

Nazi bombs falling

More Dali than Brueghel
