A "Post-Truth" Lament

We're not supposed to know
But the Towers they did blow
As indeed the pictures show;
With beams of major heft
Flung wide right and left,
And liquid metal still aglow.

That third one; "Building What?"
It came down "on the dot";
From fires so discrete?
I'd as soon
Suppose the Moon
With green cheese is replete!

"We all were in the dark
As the planes sped toward their mark,
And so should not be fired."
We are not supposed to see
That true it cannot be,
That FAA was, say, just dog-ass tired.

Cheney was on his way,
Despite what many did say,
To give the troubling command.
We're not supposed to doubt
(Or down we will be shout)
That he was not already on hand.

From Iraq to Georgia
And Ukraine, too;
They've been telling us things that, darn it, ain' true.
"It all Putin.
Darn tootin'!
There was no American coup."

They said we took a bonkin'
In the Gulf of Tonkin,
And we'd better ramp up quick.
But hold the chopper!
That proved a whopper
Fat as jolly old Saint Nick.

We're meant to think our State
Is virtuous and great,
And would not tell us lies;
But take a good look
At a history book:
Pearl Harbor was no surprise.
