The President welcomed the BCS National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide in the East Room to the White House to honor their 13th championship and their undefeated 2009 season and delivered remarks. Transcript Video

In honor of International Women's Day, the President and the First Lady Michelle Obama delivered remarks at a reception in the East Room in honor of International Women's Day. Women from around the world and their achievements were acknowledged. The reception's program included actress Kerry Washington as Emcee, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Afghan singer Mozhdah Jamalzadeh, and singer Katharine McPhee. The President met with Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Lindsey Graham in the Oval Office to get an update on their efforts toward producing a bipartisan immigration reform bill.

The President declared a major disaster existed in the State of California and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe winter storms, flooding, and debris and mud flows during the period of January 17 to February 6, 2010. Federal funding was made available to State and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storms, flooding, and debris and mud flows in the counties of Calaveras, Imperial, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Siskiyou. Federal funding was also made available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide. Source

Major General Robert A. Harding, United States Army (Retired), of Virginia, to be an Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (Transportation Security Administration) bio

David K. Mineta, of California, to be Deputy Director for Demand Reduction, Office of National Drug Control Policy, vice Bertha K. Madras. bio

The President announced his intent to nominate the following individuals to a key administration post:

Philip D. Moeller, Commissioner, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Source&Bio
