 · If they have been here all along (ala The Watchers), this might better explain how hybridization might be possible. But if both we and they were evolved/created here on Earth (explaining why they look like embryos evolved without birth-canal constraints), what have they been doing all this time and what is their purpose. If to save us, how are all the questions raised by The Threat answered? If to take over (maybe before we ruin the nest entirely) it is still hard for me to imagine how the phenomenon makes sense of their apparent behavior/plan. Maybe we are too under-evolved to understand the minds of aliens, but if we decide that is true we might as well just put our minds on hold and do what we're told. We have to try and understand our reality with what capabilities we have been dealt.

 · If they came recently they don't seem to be in much of a hurry...If they came here 100, or so, years ago (Dr. Jacobs), questions arise:

§ If they aren't co-evolved with us but are the result of evolution elsewhere then how could hybrids be possible, especially using techniques apparently no more sophisticated than animal husbandry?

Chimp ancestors and human ancestors were us 5-7 million years ago, and now share between 95% and 98.5% of our DNA, yet no one believes that the previous Gov. Arnold is the offspring of an unholy union between Reagan and Bonzo. Well, no Republicans.

We can already clone from stem cells, which raises the question: why does a 30,000- (or even 20-) year technological advantage, require egg and sperm-cell harvesting, forced copulation, reimplantation of fetuses, etc.?

 · Either way, if they are of evil intent, or just don't care about their impact on us, they sure are being careful to wipe their feet on the mat. (I.e., it is hard to imagine how technology that can overcome the barriers of the energy-expenditure issues of traveling so far, far away from their home, plus can destroy and/or change our human memories, cannot disable/destroy every current weapons technology at our command, and "have their evil way with us," immediately.)

There are various plausible explanations for these nagging doubts that I have. I am not being humorous in order to demean these paradigms; I believe that any of them may turn out to be the truth.

On the other hand, if aliens are the dwarves maintaining the shrubbery, and engineering the events of punctuated equilibrium in our evolution (as I will propose below), then different answers may present themselves.
