Now, a thousand times that is a trillion.
One million million million (represented as a one followed by 18 zeros: 1 000 000 000 000 000 000!
And that is just ONE THIRD of the ‘missing’ Pentagon money.
Imagine one thousand billionaires, a thousand people each with a personal wealth of a billion dollars? It’s difficult, but they would only account for one trillion dollars.
So the ‘loss’ of three trillion – three thousand billion – dollars beggars the imagination, at least mine.
I can only imagine that three trillion ‘missing’ dollars must have been defined in terms other than by any ‘normal’ national book keeping systems, so as not to cause a financial crisis like the well under a trillion dollar (but growing) bind Capitalism recently found itself in:
The disappearance of three trillion dollars did not cause any foreclosures or lines of thousands of unemployed outside Naval Air Stations or Army barracks.
Yet 700 billion dollars in bailout money (which at the time and without comparing it with a three trillion dollar ‘just gone missing’ scenario, seemed like so much money that the entire United States government and half the Free World had to get involved with its handover to Mr. Henry Paulson, who is, in some kind of extraordinarily weird paradox, allegedly implicated in the causes of the original fraud/gambling Wall Street debacle in the first place.
