[1] Thirteen is a fascinating number. It is the seventh number in the Fibonacci series. Thirteen is the smallest prime number that can be expressed as the sum of the squares of two prime numbers i.e. 13 = 2 ^ 2 + 3 ^ 2. It is the only prime number which, when you reverse the digits also forms a prime number (31.) “Eleven plus two” is an anagram of “twelve plus one.” More info on the mysterious number thirteen at these sites: http://www.wisdomportal.com/Numbers/13.html

The reverse of the square of 13 is the same as the square of the reverse of 13, i.e. 13 ^ = 169; on reversing 169, we get 961 which is the same as the square of reverse of 13 i.e. 31 ^ 2 = 961.

[2] The number thirteen is associated with the feminine because the body of the human female has thirteen orifices. The human male, and therefore patriarchy, is associated with the number twelve, as the body of a human male has twelve orifices.
