Either way you cut it, 'The Smart One' has a history of long, merciless and sordid ties to Latin American dictators, drug dealers, terrorists and fascists.
Columba Bush
Besides being a corrupt politician, supporter of terrorism, drug dealers and the Mafia, Jeb Bush, from all appearances seems like a happily married man. He is married to Columba Bush and has been for forty years. A native of Mexico, Columba is rarely seen inside 'The Smart One's' political circles. The couple first met in the early 1970s while Jeb Bush was on a study-abroad trip to Mexico as a high school student. The couple got married in Texas in 1974.
However, family life has not been kind to the couple. In the past, two of the couple's three children were arrested on charges related to drug possession and intoxication. Their son, Jeb Bush Jr., was arrested at a popular bar district in Texas in 2005 and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest. He was 21 years old at the time. Three years before that, their daughter, Noelle Bush, was arrested on other more serious charges.
In 2002, she was arrested and charged with trying to fill a false prescription of Xanax at a pharmacy. She was later charged for hiding crack cocaine in her shoe while staying at a drug-rehabilitation center (http://www.laopinion.com/the-private-life-of-jeb-bushs-mexican-wife-columba). She is a recovering 'crack addict'.
However, the dysfunctionality of the family does not simply rest on the sins of the offspring. In 1999, immigration agents temporarily detained Columba at the Florida airport after she deceitfully stated to customs agents that she bought only $500 worth of clothes and jewelry during a shopping spree in Paris, when in fact she had purchased $19,000 in clothing and jewelry. The original receipts were found in her passport (ibid). She was never arrested.
But the wife of privilege has even more baggage than she had when she flew to Paris.
Columba Bush's sister is married to John P. Schmitz, a beneficiary of the
fellowship programs subsumed under the Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft, and he is the
brother of Joseph Schmitz. Both Schmitz's
come from a long family line of hotly righteous reactionaries and they have
close links to George Bush, Sr.
(http://www.apfn.net/Messageboard/10-03-07/discussion.cgi.21.html). 'John' is a former executive with Blackwater
Worldwide, now called Academi LLC, and previously known as Xe.
Interestingly, the Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft and its subsidiary fellowships were used to sponsor the professional careers of said 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta (http://www.rense.com/general37/ATA.HTM).
As Topix.com noted regarding Columba's brother-in-law, John P. Schmitz:
"With Schmitz, one gets into a really nasty political neighborhood: He was deputy counsel, under C. Boyden Grey, to then-Vice President George H.W. Bush, playing a role in the defense of the elder Bush in the Iran-Contra scandal. John Schmitz and his brother Joseph E. Schmitz are both longtime leaders of the Federalist Society.
John was also both law clerk to Judge Antonin Scalia, US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia (1983-1984), and a Special Assistant to William Baxter, Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust, US Department of Justice (1981-1982). Prior to law school, he was Legislative Assistant to US Representative Goodloe E. Byron (1977) and Legislative Aide to US Congressman Charles W. Sandman, Jr. (1973-1975). All were proud right-wing politicians.
The Schmitz's father was John G. Schmitz, a militant racist and reactionary fascist who was the former California State Senator, member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and U.S. Presidential candidate under the American Independent Party in 1972.
Schmitz Sr. once told a TV interviewer in 1982 that it might be time for a military coup in the United States, just like General Augusto Pinochet's coup in Chile. His friend, columnist Joseph Sobran, quoted Representative Schmitz saying:
"There is nothing wrong with the Jesuits that a good Inquisition wouldn't cure" (http://www.topix.com/forum/philly/TBBSIQJBD6CFEED5B/p13332).
Schmitz 'the elder', died in 2001, but his legacy continues.
