Let's get into this week's five:
Rob Kall, Cheryl Biren, and Josh Mitteldorf of OpEdNews were on the ground at this civil resistance action. They took shot some good interviews. But, here is a very well-produced video from the action that does more than bring you a sense of what happened. The video uses Chris Hedges' eloquent words on hope as a device for presenting interviews from veterans who have decided "enough is enough."
If you paid attention to the news at all this week, you saw Julian Assange make bail and leave prison in the UK. He now has an uphill battle against U.S. government persecution. This "press conference" with Assange after his release gives the real issues surrounding his release, not the NBC Nightly News' Brian Williams "'Oh My!'" There's a Criminal Walking Free and It's Ominous" issues the corporate media has propagated all this week.
In Georgia, the largest prison strike in U.S. history began just over a week ago. Here is prison reform and rights advocate Elaine Brown talking about what happened, how it was organized, and why the prisoners were striking. She talks about the violence prison guards used in response to the prisoners' decision to organize a strike. Cell phones that were illicitly gained from prison guards made this possible. This unreported act of resistance is another sign that Americans are waking up and losing their ability to tolerate injustice.
Judge Andrew Napolitano and former Congressman Bob Barr, strong advocates for protecting civil liberties, discuss FBI entrapment of mostly Muslims in "terror stings." Sure, the two are reactionary on many other issues, but here they make good points that most media are ignoring (or really do not care to make on cable television because it would raise questions about the FBI).
