The President attended a dinner for U.S. Senator Harry Reid at a private residence in Las Vegas, Nevada. Source

The President spent the night in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) took over a total of seven banks in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas and Arizona, lifting to 139 the number of U.S. banks that have fallen in 2010. The banks were:

Hillcrest Bank, based in Overland Park, Kansas, with $1.6 billion in assets

First Bank of Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida, with $81 million in assets

Progress Bank of Florida, based in Tampa, Florida with $110.7 million in assets

First National Bank of Barnesville in Barnesville, Georgia, with $131.4 million in assets

Gordon Bank of Gordon, Georgia., with $29.4 million in assets

First Suburban National Bank in Maywood, Illinois., with $148.7 million in assets

First Arizona Savings, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, with assets of $272.2 million. Source

The United States Justice Department (DOJ) announced an agreement, which must be approved by a federal judge, with Illinois election officials allowing more time for ballots from military and overseas voters to be counted in six counties where ballots were sent out late due to 35 of the 110 election jurisdictions in Illinois not meeting the September 18, 2010, deadline for sending out ballots. A survey by the Illinois Board of Elections found 29 jurisdictions sent out ballots between two and 12 days late; three 16 days late; two 17 days late and one was tardy by 20 days.The agreement covered the six election jurisdictions sending out ballots more than 16 days late. The President traveled to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he delivered remarks at a rally at the University of Minnesota (transcript) and at a dinner for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) at the George W. and Nancy B. Van Dusen Mansion (transcript).

The President returned to the White House in the evening.

For three-quarters of an hour, launch control officers at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming couldn't reliably communicate or monitor the status of 50 Minuteman III nuclear missiles. Source
