This 13-CD boxed set with a 300-page booklet provides a collection of music and "audio verite" clips has all of the music that Americans identify as protest music from the Vietnam War era, but it also packs on lesser known songs. The boxed set takes a step further and profiles the conservative backlash by showing how protest music inspired country music artists to imbue nationalism into their songs. Four of the CDs give veterans, relatives, and family members the opportunity to tell of the aftermath of war. In a time when America has six conflicts or wars going (Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, the Horn of Africa), it has never been more important to examine the cost of war to humanity and what war does to a country's people. This boxed set gives people who love music an opportunity to do that.
Unfortunately, this labor-of-love retails at over $250. (Maybe your local library will have this collection for you to check out and enjoy.)
