What can be done about those 20 or more segments of the populace (e.g., aggrieved victims, consumers, existing grass roots movements, peace and feminist groups, senior citizens, unions, and the like) that could possibly be mobilized and organized into a broad coalition of people to exert political pressure in support of initiatives to end the corpocracy? Readers with ideas please let me know.

Besides a massive coalition of the public a new political party is needed since the twin major political parties are both in bed with big business. Third parties have not fared well in American history partly because of our election rules. In her book, Grand Illusion: The Myth of Voter Choice in a Two Party Tyranny, Theresa Amato, former campaign manager for Ralph Nader and founder of the NGO, CitizenAdvocacyCenter, says that unless one has been running a political race outside the two primary parties, "it is impossible to imagine the injustices of the two-party-tilted electoral process." Third parties run into all sorts of legal and other hurdles.

I'm not an expert on the electoral process so I will defer to others on what to do about the tilted rules. In the meantime I think we desperately need a new political party that would have no strings attached to the corpocracy and has a very unifying theme around which to rally. The independent parties that exist today such as progressive parties are too splintered and small.

So please think about the possibility of there being an "American Party." It ought to meld together all the elements that most human beings share. For example: All human beings everywhere have a history of honoring more often than not universal human values (e.g., respect and caring for others whom ever the others are). All human beings living in America who are citizens are American citizens. All American citizens have a responsibility to practice good citizenship behavior. All American citizens have a responsibility to uphold the U.S. Constitution, which says nothing about corporate rights.

From such common, unifying elements as these a new party and a new platform could be created. Politicians who are democrats but who denounce the corpocracy would be invited to join the party. The dozen or so existing progressive parties and political action groups would also be invited.

This new party obviously couldn't happen overnight. All non-Repugnantlicans must vote out the Repugnantlicans in the 2012 election but with a clear warning: This is the swan song for the Democratic Party also. This is the beginning of the new American Party and the beginning of a new and liberated America, one that promotes the general welfare, not corporate and political welfare.

Please think about it. A new American Party could reclaim democracy, rebuild America, and help provide for the general welfare that is one of the purposes of our Constitution. If George Washington, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and FDR could return and see what is happening today I am convinced they would want to the lead the American Party.
