On many vital issues, the Israeli tail wags the US dog. What benefits Israel strategically doesn't always help America. Increasingly, Israel is more liability than ally. It's time Washington recognized reality and cut the cord.
James Petras once said "(t)he US-Israeli relationship is the first in modern history in which the imperial country covers up a deliberate major military assault by a supposed ally."
He referred to the 1967 USS Liberty attack. Israel bombed and strafed it. Dozens of US seamen were killed. Around 170 were wounded. The vessel was heavily damaged. Israel got away with murder. It wasn't the first or last time.
From then to now, the relationship strengthened. Today more than ever it threatens world peace. Media scoundrels conceal it. It's time to reveal what's been denied too long. It's time to cut ties and move on.
Immanuel Wallerstein sees it coming. Since at least 1967, he said:
"Support for Israel in every possible way has been a centerpiece of U.S. foreign policy".Few dare challenge it.""But the 'few' are beginning to get more open support from military figures, who suggest that Israel's politics are dangerous in terms of U.S. military interests."
"Will the pervasive support of Israel continue unabated in the coming decade or two? I doubt it. Israel may be the last of U.S. emotional commitments to fade. But fade it almost surely will."
