Considering the unusually sharp public condemnation of the operation, the post-raid declaration by Israel and its supporters that the Free Gaza movement "poses a threat" to the Jewish state is hardly shocking.
"(The flotilla's organizers) planned this attack," charged Israeli Lieutenant Colonel Avital Leibovitch in a report published by the British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC).
"Israel had no choice but to defend its soldiers from becoming the victims of the premeditated provocation and violent onslaught organized under the guise of a humanitarian effort." asserted David Rich of Florida's Anti-Defamation League in comments published by Florida's Sun Sentinel.

The Washington Post, however, reports that prior to the attack, the Free Gaza Movement was regarded as little more than a "political nuisance."
