Mr. Obama will be supported by the U.S. military as evidenced recently when General Patraeus appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee and told members that Israel's continuing position on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process was the main reason for instability in the Middle East and Central Asia; largely because of America's image of favoritism for Israel.
Israel should be forewarned that if it continues to stifle any and all attempts to achieve a two-state solution, if it continues to pursue its current militaristic agenda and, if initiates an irresponsible, reckless attack on Iran, then the U.S. will immediately end Israel's $2.5 billion annual military aid.
Many will say that the U.S. will never change its policies in
its relations with Israel, that the powerful Israeli lobby, AIPAC, and other strong
supporters of Israel will bring enormous pressure to maintain the status quo
and that nothing in this current scenario will change. My answer to that is it had better change or one day, sooner than we think, the world may watch as
the Middle East goes up in flames.
That must not be allowed to happen.
