So I hereby call a town hall meeting to start the discussion. Together, let's figure out what our highest shared values are, and decide what we want our future to be.
If we can do that, we might find that the people who have been desperately clinging to the status quo and so closing their eyes to the truth are willing to open their eyes.
Let's "ask them" -- the people of America -- what they want, as Robert Redford suggested in Three Days of the Condor. Let's all figure out what "carrot" will motivate people to do things differently. But we have to do it now, while there is still time to create a positive future. As Higgins says, if the people delay on deciding what we want until later, it will be too late, and the "deciders" will create our future for us.
