The brilliance of Paine and Carlin are undeniable. The ignorance, of Limbaugh and Beck, is equally undeniable. You can try, but the volume of evidence that is available - thousands of hours of transcripts - can prove you wrong.
For instance, check out this hilarious example of Rush Limbaugh displaying his superior knowledge (yuk yuk) of the Constitution of the United States. It occurred at the 2009 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
Limbaugh was there at CPAC to deliver the keynote address. You can read the entire idiocy riddled speech at Mr. Limbaugh's website: Rush's First Televised Address to the Nation: Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Speech, but here's the segment that should give people, intelligent enough not to be "Dittoheads", a good gut busting belly laugh.
"We want every American to be the best he or she chooses to be. We recognize that we are all individuals. We love and revere our founding documents, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. We believe that the preamble to the Constitution contains an inarguable truth that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life. Liberty, Freedom. And the pursuit of happiness. Those of you watching at home may wonder why this is being applauded. We conservatives think all three are under assault. Thank you. Thank you."
People that are not ignorant of America's founding documents can spot the mistakes immediately. Limbaugh is quoting the Declaration of Independence, not the U.S. Constitution. And, "Freedom" isn't in either the Preamble of the Constitution, or the Declaration of Independence. It's simply one of Limbaugh's parroted, cookie-cutter, catchwords that he has trouble keeping out of any sentence that he utters. Now, ordinarily, that wouldn't be such a big deal, these are easy mistakes to make, after all. However, in this situation, it's significant for two reasons.
First, Limbaugh has his knuckle dragging "Dittoheads" convinced that he's some sort of well studied genius when it comes to the Founding Fathers, the Constitution, and other founding documents.
Second, Rush was not there at CPAC just to deliver the keynote address. He was also there to accept CPAC's 2009 "Defender of the Constitution" Award. Is that not the best? The supposed wiz of wiz, if ever a wiz there was when it comes to the Constitution, misquotes the Constitution while accepting an award for being "The Defender of the Constitution". It was classic wing-nut ignorance on display.
That was ignorance (lack of knowledge), now it's time for stupidity. There's no other way to describe it. If I was going give out an award called "The Defender of Wing-nut Ignorance Award", I would have to call it a four way tie between Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Beck's two chowderhead side kicks.
First Beck, and his "crew", three science-challenged idiots, attempt to defend Christine O'Donnell's comments on a 1998 episode of Bill Maher's "Politically Incorrect" HBO series.
O'DONNELL: You know what, evolution is a myth. And even Darwin himself...
MAHER: Evolution is a myth? Have you ever looked at a monkey?
O'DONNELL: Well then, why they -- why aren't monkeys still evolving into humans?
Listen along at MediaMattersà ‚¬ com as Moe, Curly, and Larry demonstrate that their knuckles rarely leave the ground when it comes to understanding science.
CURLEY (GLENN): Ummm, ah, how many people believe in evolution" in this country?
LARRY (STU): I think they've had a poll on that I'm sure.
