Why haven't these self-serving politicians been monitoring the performance of the VA system on a regular basis, as is their responsibility, something that might have identified problems that needed attention long ago? Why have they not performed their oversight responsibilities, not only relative to the VA, but on the private sector hospital systems as well? The answer is that they are simply incapable of doing so; they are not at all proactive but, rather, extremely reactive.
This is the absolute height of hypocrisy, it's more than sickening. How many of these political buffoons have we ever heard speak out about the need for this country to back off its agenda of military aggressiveness, to stop sending these troops into unnecessary wars and conflicts that generate massive profits for those who control the defense industry? The answer is it doesn't happen.
And then we see the pathetic mainstream media turning this into yet another feeding ground for these sharks. This media is incapable of looking into any problem situation in depth and exploring all the elements involved. They are masters at taking pot shots, coming up with scapegoats and laying blame. Instead of looking at the big picture what they do is interview a handful of people whose sons, daughters or friends have had personal problems with the VA, from long waiting times to tragic, preventable deaths, including suicides.
It's actually a good thing that these problems and abusive practices that have occurred at some VA facilities have been divulged because, when they are remedied by competent, rational-thinking individuals at some point in time, the VA will return to its place as one of this country's premier health care systems. Yes, these problems can most certainly be fixed. But the one entity that should have no role in doing just that is the grossly incompetent, do-nothing Congress of the United States.
