The United States Federal Transportation Administration began to enforce new rules on passenger rights:
1) a new tarmac delay rule expanded protections to international flights to ensure passengers are not held on aircraft for more than 4 hours without the opportunity to deplane
2) expanded the information on taxes and fees available to the customer at the beginning of the ticket purchase process. Airlines were required to disclose ticket, baggage, and airport fees associated with a ticket purchase at the outset - rather than on the final purchase screen Source
Day821/Apr21st/Thursday: The President traveled to ElectraTherm Incorporated in Reno, Nevada, where he participated in a Shared Responsibility and Shared Prosperity town hall to discuss his vision for bringing down the deficit of the United States. The President announced, " The Attorney General is putting together a team whose job it is to root out any cases of fraud or manipulation in the oil markets that might affect gas prices, and that includes the role of traders and speculators. The President spent the night in Los Angeles.
Vice President Joe Biden spoke by telephone with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the morning about Russia's World Trade Organization accession, the Obama Administration's commitment to terminate Jackson-Vanik's application to Russia, and next steps on missile defense cooperation. Source
Day822/Apr22nd/Friday: in a released statement, the President declared, " The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms the use of force by the Syrian government against demonstrators. This outrageous use of violence to quell protests must come to an end now. We regret the loss of life and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims, and with the Syrian people in this challenging time ."
The President declared a major disaster existed in the State of Oklahoma and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, tornadoes, and straight-line winds on April 14, 2011. Federal funding was made available to affected individuals in Atoka County. Asistance included grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. Federal funding also was made available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide. Source
