"This is the first step toward taking the White House in 2012," Bachmann told the crowd. "And you have sent a message that Barack Obama will be a one-term president. This is a wonderful down payment on taking the country back -- and it started in Iowa."
The vote was billed as one that could make or break some campaigns."
Did Michele Bachman win the Ames Straw Poll? The media claims that she did, and they reported it faithfully on all the networks, only Michele Bachman didn't win the Ames Straw Poll, she bought it.
The Bachmann campaign purchased over 6,000 tickets at $30.00 each and hired country music star Randy Travis to perform a free concert. Then the Bachmann team hired busses to round up concert goers eager for a free lunch, a free ride and a free concert. Handbills instructed those who wanted to go to the free concert to report to the Bachmann table and to vote first, before they would be allowed to see the show.
Even so, Bachmann garnered only 4,187 votes which means that nearly 20 percent of her guests took the tickets, ate the barbeque and went to the concert after voting for someone else. The Bachmann campaign spent close to a million dollars this weekend to "win" but did she really "win" anything at all?
How could the major media outlets miss such shenanigans, and how could they fail to inform us of them? They did so because it made for a good story, that's all it is, a story. When you only tell part of the truth you tell a complete lie. It isn't just the manipulation of a straw poll it is a manipulation of the entire electoral process.
In the week before the Republican National Convention John McCain went to Florida with a slight lead in the polls. In front of a group of senior citizens he announced that Social Security benefits would have to be cut for future retirees. It was a senseless and suicidal campaign move as Obama suddenly pulled ahead in Florida. Then McCain announces his running mate at the convention, a totally unqualified, unknown nincompoop. An elderly candidate with a zero as his Vice President, it is almost as if he didn't want to win, or somebody didn't want him to win.
The media immediately either loves Sarah Palin or the media hates Sarah Palin depending on which side of the fence that you are on. Republican's shout they're picking on her calling, "What newspapers do you read" a trick question." The media didn't cover this election campaign as much as they directed it.
