"I won the 2016 Election partially based on no Tax Returns while I am under audit (which I still am), and the voters didn't care," he said.
"Now the Radical Left Democrats want to again relitigate this matter. Make it a part of the 2020 Election!" he added.
Trotting out the tired old "I am under audit" reason is demonstrably false and was brought to light immediately after he first said it. If indeed, his base still doesn't care, it merely means that this was the first incident of lack of critical thinking and the descent into a cult.
NPR Factcheck Feb. 26, 2016:
"He can obviously release them if he wants to," said Daniel Shaviro, professor of taxation at New York University Law School. But Shaviro conceded, as other tax experts have, that Trump's lawyers may advise him not to release the returns for legal strategy purposes.
In other words, there were those who knew he had something to hide, those who surmised he had something to hide, and those who took his word at face value and didn't bother to question the unorthodox situation at all.
No Critical Thinking Allowed.
Is Trump a TRUE patriot? As always, supporters follow Trump as patriots. Setting all nuances aside for the definition, "patriot" is simply love of country. Substituting "I" for "we" in most of his rally rants wouldn't be hard for Trump, but like many cult leaders, Trump defers to a different or higher power (referring to his administration as "we" or "our administration") so whenever he speaks, he puts himself above America. "make America great again" was meant to mean "I'll make America great again". While His pettiness and vindictiveness demonstrate strength in defense to his cultists, they show a "me first/the rest of you second" mindset to other Americans.
Would Trump give up any of his supposed wealth for his country? Would he lay down his life for his country?
The answer to both questions is, of course, a resounding "no". But the people without any critical thinking brush aside his draft deferments and his his broken promise to "finance" his own campaign.* those were lies put out by fake news media. Anybody who listens to him KNOWS he's a true patriot!
When we fail to look beyond what a politician says, we fail our country. It's not that all politicians are liars, but our freedoms, our democracy, all are too precious to make un/mis-informed decisions about everyone running for, or in public office. For most Trump supporters, voting is not based on an informed decision. Despite The National Enquirer's motto, "Inquiring minds want to know," tabloids like the Enquirer are not sources for making informed decisions about lawmakers, and while tabloids exist in almost all modern day cultures, America has elevated tabloids to a cult status. That many people believe them is beyond mere gullibility and a prime example of dependence on sensational headlines and lack of critical thinking.
Perhaps because intelligent, well-educated people believed the New York Times, semi-literate Americans gravitated towards tabloids just to prove to their friends that they are one of those "inquiring minds" who "want to know".
And for Ann Coultergeist, the conservative columnist who wrote In Trump We Trust - E Pluribus Awesome, Trump had this to say:
Ouch! Humiliating a major supporter who wrote "In Trump We trust - E Pluribus Awesome while lying about the "wall being built" is an inane and insane response, but not to true Trump supporters.
