However, instead of guessing about specifics about what exactly President Trump might do, I want to call attention to a similarity between Trump's big-sounding campaign promises in 2016 an then-Senator Barack Obama's big-sounding campaign promises in 2008.

Just as I said in one OEN piece after another in 2016 that the possibility of Trump being elected was not unthinkable, so too I said earlier in one OEN piece after another that President Obama had not turned out to be Superman, as his big-sounding 2008 campaign promises had led us to expect him to be, but Clark Kent, the mild-mannered reporter. In fairness to Obama, I should mention that the economic crisis that emerged late in the 2008 presidential campaign severely restricted his possible actions in his first term.

In a similar way, Trump's big-sounding 2016 campaign promises are not likely to result in actions that will actually be as big as his promises sounded. In short, President Trump will not be Superman, just as President Obama was not Superman.

But if Zito is correct in saying that Trump's supporters do not take Trump literally, then they may not have high expectations about how he will deliver on his big-sounding 2016 campaign promises. In short, they may not expect him to be Superman, as some of President Obama's 2008 supporters evidently did expect him to be. As a result, many of Obama's supporters were seriously disappointed when he turned out to be more like Clark Kent than Superman. But I admit that it is hard to imagine President Trump being mild mannered like Clark Kent.

CONCLUSION

In summary, in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary, then Senator Clinton lost to then-Senator Obama. In the 2016 presidential election, Secretary Clinton lost decisively in the Electoral College to the Republican Party's presidential candidate, who had no previous experience in elective politics.

They say that the third time is a charm. So will Hillary emerge as the Democratic Party's 2020 presidential candidate, or will another Democrat emerge as the Democratic Party's 2020 presidential candidate -- perhaps former President Obama, eh?

Will President Trump run for re-election in 2020, or will another Republican emerge as the Republican Party's 2020 presidential candidate.

In the meantime, will the anti-election protesters in various cities around the country (where the Democratic Party usually does well) be able to sustain their protest spirit against President Trump and the Republican Congress in the near future?
