In addition, in Roman Catholic spiritually, we find the expression the Communion of Saints, which refers to all deceased Catholic saints (not just to the ones recognized formally by the church as canonized saints) and all living Catholic saints (as all practicing Catholics are supposed to be).
Wow! We might conclude that Bakan really used a potent term when we turn our attention to the Roman Catholic Church.
Nevertheless, the Roman Catholic Church has not yet quite figured out how to justify ordaining women to be priests.
Instead, it remains stuck in accentuating the supposed complementarity of men and women, and reserving the ordained priesthood to men only. But Bakan claims that the correct way to view complementarity is to see agency and communion as two complementary human tendencies in all human persons.
But of course the Roman Catholic bishops are far too stubborn to recognize this, because they do not want to ordain women to the priesthood.
