So far,
there has been no response from Daniel's family. Given the importance that they
give to what people think of them, we can suppose that none will be
forthcoming.
Perhaps
they should have an intervention.
*The lack of compassion by Southern Baptists at the time was astounding: it
took over 20 years for any AIDS-related agency to be sponsored by any Southern
Baptists church in the country. Rick Warren has, of course, stated that his
Saddleback Campus has one, but very little is known about it, since there are
so few gay or lesbian people affiliated with the church. BTW: the first
faith-based AIDS agency outside of San Francisco was the Episcopal Diocese of
Los Angeles in 1986. Kudos should go to it for being so very, very brave.
** In 1996, long after the CDC told gthe public that one couldn't get AIDS from
a toilet seat, Mike Huckabee wanted to have everyone quarantined. And while
Huckabee has stated flatly that he has no animosity against gays, ten years of
his sermons at the time have mysteriously disappeared.
