We have over 3,200 tactical combat aircraft, and our Navy has more ships than the next 13 countries combined.
Then CNN ran a teaser showing the Directorships that both Myers and Fallon currently serve on. It hit me between the eyes like a Nolan Ryan fastball!
In America, wasteful defense spending is the greatest business there is. We spend more money on defense than every other nation in the world combined.
Promoted primarily by the Republican Party, but not without assistance from the Democrats, we are sacrificing the lives and health of our young people to stoke the treasuries of huge military profiteers.
Congress, particularly the Senate, is complicit in this outrage by their lack of will to build a firewall between our military and the ravenous defense corporations.
Myers is on the board of Northrup Grumman, the world's fourth largest defense contractor. Their 2008 revenue was 34 billion dollars. In the 12 years from 1990 to 2002, Grumman contributed $8.5 million to federal campaigns, 63% of which ended up in Republican coffers.
According to CorpWatch, at least seven former Northrup Grumman officials, consultants, or major shareholders have held posts in the Bush administration, including the publicly disgraced Paul Wolfowitz and Scooter Libby.
Myers also serves on the board of United Technologies, with 2008 revenues of $60 billion. Military helicopters, particularly the UH-60 Black Hawk are one of their specialties.
