In Glennbeckistan big business runs everything and the government, such as it is, takes its sailing orders from the Captains of Industry.  You and I are reduced to the economic equivalent of Soylent Green to fuel their financial nation states. Â
They called it Fascism in Mussolini's Italy. They'll call it something else in 21st century Glennbeckistan but it will be a variation on the theme -- except the trains probably won't run on time.Â
As I write this I imagine thousands of our military men and women, who gave their lives in war to protect democracy, spinning in their graves at the thought that someone like Beck is working to convince us that their sacrifice was for all for naught.
If Beck was a real revolutionary standing up for the common man he'd be after the oligarchs who have used their vast wealth to usurp power and assumed far too much control over Congress, the media, and the economy.Â
He'd be raging against the massive deregulation that led to our economic collapse and be sending his hoards into the streets to demand the financial manipulators and scammers (and we know who they are) be put on trial -- and if found guilty sentenced to spend the rest of their lives in a cell with Bruno the Huge who will do the same thing to them on a daily basis that they've been doing to us.Â
Instead of worrying about how much Congress is paid he'd be outraged at the billions of dollars in fraud and mismanagement by military contractors such as Halliburton in Iraq and Afghanistan, the death grip the Military Industrial Complex has on our tax dollars, and the corruption of our electoral system by the Roberts Court which ruled that corporations have all the political rights of individuals and none of the responsibilities.
And if he was a real Capitalist he'd be telling his fans to sharpen their pitchforks and hone the blades of their guillotines to go after the gang that has perverted the free market into a form of socialism for multi-nationals.Â
But he knows nobody's going to pay him $35 million a year to do that anymore than the pimp's going to make a living by not sending his gaggle of wenches out to sell sex.
To give Beck the benefit of the doubt, he may not realize he's pimping for the dark side. With his fragile ego and need for recognition he's the kind of personality that could easily be manipulated by the really smart people -- made to believe that indeed he does have the answers and yes, his mistrust of parental authority (the government) is spot on, and he's doing the country a great service by preaching that theology to the masses.Â
Of course the more glory and acceptance he accumulates and the more he's able to parallel himself in his own mind with the true heroes in history -- Martin Luther King for instance -- the crazier he'll get and more omnipotent he'll feel, until one day he'll cross some line and be brought down like Icarus on an exceptionally hot day. But by then he'll have served his purpose and Rupert will cast him aside like a worn out shoe.Â
Or maybe he really is just another American Judas who sold out democracy for a satchel of gold.  I'd like to believe the former but I strongly suspect it's the latter.
