And I know you have worked diligently and tirelessly. I've read your books War is a Lie and When the World Outlawed War , and I consider them classics. Getting back on subject, your supper summit of peace and environmental activists, tell us more about the participants. Ray McGovern is a regular on OpEdNews, what can you tell us about him?
David Swanson
Ray is absolutely wonderful, dedicated, and fearless. But that applies to many. Here are their bios.
OpEdNews
And what about Max Blumenthal? I've read his books too. Max doesn't pull any punches. What can you tell us about him?
David Swanson
He is a terrific reporter and writer and will be coming from the antiwar angle, as opposed to the environmentalist. He's done great reporting lately on Palestine, Syria, and other wars, and on the corrupt war machine that keeps the wars coming -- a machine in which I mean to include the corporate media, or much of it. He'll speak on those themes and wherever the discussion goes.

I am guilty of waking up one morning and reading about an event and saying to myself, "Why didn't I hear about this before?" So I am really grateful for your OpEdNews article The Gathering to Abolish War . Looking over the lineup of speakers, like Chelsea Manning; and I'll never give Obama a pardon for the way he let his Pentagon tortured her. And you have Seymour Hersh coming. He is a legend, and still doing great work uncovering the truth. You won't see the New York Times giving him any ink.
David Swanson
Right. He's stayed as good while the NY Times has worsened. He has to get published abroad now. He's coming to receive an annual award from the Sam Adams Associates for Integrity in Intelligence. Manning is coming as a special guest and past recipient who was given the same award while unjustly imprisoned. We are especially glad to welcome Manning after Harvard's disgraceful withdrawing of its invitation to her. We have also just added Edward Snowden as a speaker via live video.

Many of your guests I've asked you about. I know you don't want to slight anybody, but what really excites you about them?
David Swanson
It's the interaction among them, especially between environmental and peace experts, and especially questions and comments from everyone attending that make a conference produce surprisingly great ideas that individual speeches don't provide. This is an interactive conference with workshops planning actual work for peace and the earth. But all of the speakers will be great. Some of them I've heard many times and know how good they'll be. Others are newer to me but come highly recommended.
