Election 2012: Shall Evil Triumph?!

A rose is a rose by whatever color. And FDIC remains stably, of course, an essential working tax to Social Security and the later added Medicare by LBJ.

In both the latter instances, politicians came together bilaterally to create remarkably beneficial legislation.   It required compromise, and marked times of congressional battles that produced victories for the American people.   And it all was sculpted by the likes of FDR, LBJ, and even presidential Republicans who actually collaborated in a democratic process as well, among them George H. W. Bush, and before him Reagan.

Bully pulpit presidents such as Teddy Roosevelt, now long past, one is drawn instead not big sticks but to seeking a magic potion for simple bipartisan cooperation.

In all this, taxes inevitably figure.

Progressive or regressive in nature matters not, for sales taxes, whether luxury or common consumer, remain a percentage plucked from the American pocket.

But without these no services or infrastructures could be financed and maintained.

"No new taxes" remains an empty campaign promise inevitably reneged upon.   Of course there must be taxes. They provide citizens services, and even create jobs - particularly in maintaining community infrastructures.

In my own home town of Pueblo, Democrats, by hook or crook delivered jobs in construction of bridges and new edifices, both county and municipal.   Yet another such structure, massive and impressive, begins to take shape at the corner of Fourth and Elizabeth.
