5. The Earth Would Have Warmed Much More if the IPCC Models Were Correct.
However, this argument by Lindzen depends on ignoring (a) the planet's inertia (due primarily to the ocean), which means that adding greenhouse gases does not raise the temperature until several decades later, and (b) the cooling effects of aerosols, such as the Asian "brown cloud." When calculations are carried out in light of these two factors, "the Earth has warmed almost exactly as much as we would expect."
6. Climategate Revealed the Hoax: In one of the biggest scandals in modern science, emails hacked from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia suggest that most of the prominent scientists advocating human-caused global warming have been, as blogger Andrew Bolt summarized, guilty of "conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more."
However, this was a scandal that wasn't. The conclusion that none of the scientists were guilty of any wrongdoing was reached by a large number of investigations, including:
Pennsylvania State University, where Michael Mann teaches, concluded that "there is no substance to the allegation against Dr. Michael E. Mann."
The UK's House of Commons Science and Technology Committee concluded that criticisms of the Climate Research Unit (CRU) were misplaced and that CRU's "Professor Jones's actions were in line with common practice in the climate science community."
The University of East Anglia, in consultation with the Royal Society, found "no evidence of any deliberate scientific malpractice in any of the work of the Climatic Research Unit."
