With this buildup of powerful weapons on both sides of this issue the chances of a massive confrontation between the two is increasing exponentially; and if it comes to that ignition point then it's not difficult to see which side has, by far, the most firepower and which will prevail.
What we have here is a massive vicious circle; as this society becomes more and more violent, the government increases its surveillance activities and acquires more powerful weaponry by which to deal with it. Then more and more Americans, spurred on by the constant warnings about the potential loss of 2nd Amendment rights from the NRA, secure more and more weapons to defend themselves. As the people continue to arm themselves the government responds with even more weaponry of its own. And this vicious circle continues unabated.
How is this all going to end? Will America end up becoming a fully controlled state? Hopefully not if this country and its people can somehow find the leaders who can deal with this extremely increasingly volatile situation by using reason, logic and rational thinking to bring this entire process under control. But, being realistic, what are the chances that this will ever happen?
Apparently the disease of war has now metastasized and spread into the body of this nation. This is an illness that, at this point in time, has no cure, as the fear and mistrust between the U.S. government and the people of this country is ever increasing. There is no mutual dialogue, no constructive exchanges on how to mitigate this situation, no common ground at all.
On the one side of this confrontation we find the most violent people in this society; extremists, malcontents, those who simply hate those who enforce the laws and others who just plain hate other people; and on the other side we have police acquiring more and more powerful weaponry to enforce the law no matter what it may take. But the greatest concern of all must be for those who are caught in the middle of this confrontation; the majority of people who feel that neither of these opposing entities is on the right side of this issue. But they are helpless to do anything about it and so they just accept what is happening.
Somewhere out there George Orwell must be watching and listening to what is going on in America and thinking, "Didn't I tell them what was going to happen?"
