O'Sullivan, had one major responsibility, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. She however has allegedly not needed to report to Hadley or Bush daily. One of the unforeseen mistakes inherent in the “War Czar” position is that s/he would have two bosses-the better to fail with and allow the Bushites to shift blame in a shell game at which they seem to thrive and fail regularly. The “War Czar” would an assistant to Bush, and in rank equal to Hadley, with whom he would “coordinate,” however, he would report directly to the president. A surefire failure set-up, if ever one existed. I can see Hadley and Bush now as failure continues.
Hadley, “I didn’t tell you to do that, Mr. “War Czar!”
Bush, “Right and that is also the opposite of what I Okayed, Mr. “War Czar.”
At the same time, the new official would hold the second title of Deputy National Security Adviser. The official would work solely on execution, not on THE policy development, on which O'Sullivan mostly focused.
The poor devil would have to work with a “trusted Agent’ assigned by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates and other key Cabinet officers. Whatta Deal!
One “advisor” has said that the “War Czar” position, would bring command of the Iraq war back to Washington after years of having it in the control of the Military and civilians who were “too busy” in the field to focus on greater issues. Well, that about covers spreading the blame to every living creature on the planet. Now the Generals and civilians, all of them, are to blame for the mess not the idiots who created it.
A spokesperson supposedly said that, Hadley would like to have a retired general or diplomat but will also consider those on active duty, or state department or foreign service functionaries, or a uniformed door man, a shoe salesman, used car salesman, a blind umpire, a disheveled drugee, or Mickey Mouse might work out too, or even a cartoon superhero, like Wonder Woman, err, she has a great body, (said one Bushite, who apparently reads lot of comic books at cabinet meetings, while Bush watches Texas Ranger games and cries a lot.) Right now they are quite willing to take anyone, really as long as their IQ is, uhh, "compatible” with that of the President and Cabinet, you know, like low double, or even single digits?”
