Clinton's idea that sanctioning war is a symbol of strength is bizarre, and counter to the nurturing power of women. A true sign of strength would have been to vote against pre-emptive war. A true sign of strength would have been taking an independent stance. Battling to keep the village standing and the children within it whole.
Powerful women support peace over war. They don't forfeit their intrinsic humanity when they enter the Senate hall.
Take for example the courageous women of Codepink who delivered supplies to Lebanese victims during the recent Israel/Hesbollah war. Or young Marla Ruzicka who gave her life in Baghdad advocating for victims in Iraq. Or twenty three year old Rachel Corrie killed by an Israeli tank while opposing the destruction of a house in Gaza. Each of these women put much more than their hallowed "seats" on the line. They put their lives on the line. They epitomize the power of women. They have the conviction and the strength to lead.
In today's male dominated world wars rage on every corner of the globe. Across several continents, sectarian violence is at genocidal heights. Mass rapes of women occur every minute of the day. The belief that "the normal state of mankind is war" has brought our planet to the brink of destruction. The belief that "peace is an aberration" keeps the United States on the edge of war with the world. A war that was prompted by the criminal act of a rag-tag band of fanatics.
One might imagine that given a woman's predisposition toward peace, a woman President of the United States might have reacted differently after September 11, 2001. Absent the natural tendency toward violence, a woman President may have recognized the criminal act for what it was, gone after the protagonists, stayed focused on their demise, and nurtured the support of the rest of the world.
The time has come for a woman to rule this nation. The time has come for women to rule the world. Quickly before it's too late.
