US Code, Title 18, Part l, Chapter 47, Section 1001 (synopsis):

Whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully -

1. falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;

2. makes any materially false, fictitious or fraudulent statement or representation; or

3. makes or uses any false witing or dicument knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudelent statement or entry;

shall be fine under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism, imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.

John, note very carefully the wording of the above. Note that "whoever" includes George Bush. Note the placement of the verb in "knowingly and willfully makes any materially false statement or representation." It doesn't say makes false statements knowingly. It says knowingly makes false statements. The subject of the sentence is that he know that he made the statements, and whether they are false is secondary to the thrust of the meaning. All that matters is that he knew he made the statements.

George Bush knows that he made the statements that Iraq was buying yellow-cake, that Irag had weapons of mass destruction, that Iraq had nuclear weapons, and he knows that represented that Iraq was responsible for 9/11. All of those statements are false, and George Bush knowingly made them, which makes him subject to the statute. It has nothing to do with their being false, just that he knowingly made them and they are false.

So, there you have it, John. You have everything you need to put George Bush and the lying, obfuscating, dissembling, equivocating members of his administration in jail for eight years.

Don't keep fumbling around with the mistaken theory that you need a contempt of Congress resolution to apply the above statutes and put these criminals in jail. Those statutes are in effect right now. They're sitting there waiting on you to use them. We would like to know why you have made no use of them. Are you really ignorant of the fact that you need no resolution to use them, are you pretending you don't know about them to allow the Republicans to remain in control of your congress?

I ask you, in the name of justice and for the sake of the future of the United States, to see that you not only have the opportunity, you have the obligation and duty to see that the law is enforced against these criminals. You apparently don't understand that we elected a Democratic congress to remove the Bush regime from power. That's what the election was about. It was a repudiation of the Bush regime. Every day that George Bush is still president is a failure of our democracy, a failure of our Democratic congress, a failure of our law and an insult to we the people. Now that you know what must be done and how to do it, what in the world are you waiting for?

And, I don't want to hear any more excuses about needing a meaningless contempt of Congress resolution. I'm in contempt of and contemptuous of George Bush at all times, forever and always. I'm also in contempt of and contemptuous of this Congress you're a part of. But, you can't do anything about it because just as with George Bush, it's not against the law. What Bush has done is against the law, but, it's not contempt of Congress. Now, what are you going to do about it?
