After establishing his rural Virginia bona fides Webb retorted. "They (Allen's campaign) focus on personal invectives...The insinuation out of this that this person (branded Macaca) was separate insulted a lot people down there. Because that's not their culture. That's a very inclusive culture down there," said Webb
Earlier, Webb blasted Allen and the Bush administration for their bellicose, war-making in Iraq and their commitment to torturing prisoners, specifically criticizing the enthusiasm from those who have refused to serve in the military.
"What you are seeing here is a split between the theorists who have controlled so much of the policy in this administration, theorists who have never been on the battlefield, who have never put a uniform on," said Webb. "And who are looking at this in a totally different way than people who have had to worry about their troops and themselves possibly coming under enemy hands. This is a very easy issue..."
